Found the trip met my expectations and gave me a good idea of what our troops went through. The guide was knowledgable and able to paint a very good picture of what happened. All in all I enjoyed the experience greatly and would recommend it to others.
Excellent tour with a very knowledgable guide. It met my expectations especially the time spent at Vimy Ridge.
Tour was good, only a small van seating about 12 or so passengers and the guide was knowledgeable, a great orientation of Lille and we saw things we would not have seen from our hire car. We LOVE Lillie.
Had a remarkable day, a fantastic guide who was very passionate about his tour. Anyone interested in the Great War this tour is a must. Thanks to all.
Stayed at the Hotel Lille Europe and could not believe how close it was to Eurostar. We did worry about the noise but there was no need, the soundproofing at the hotel was perfect. The only down side was how hot the room was. It was not a particularly hot weekend and I dare to think how hot the room would be then. We obtained a fan from reception which was a blessing. The rooms are basic, clean nice white sheets, small mini barfridge all drinks 2.50E, sachets of shower gels and a not so good shower in our room 600. Breakfast was typical continental - cold boiled egg, ham, brie, yoghurt, fruit, croissants, bread, cereals and plenty of tea and coffee. Reception very friendly. Was surprised with the amount of beggars with children and lots of dogs - very sad. We went on the city tour which was quite informative although this was through headphones on the coach rather then a guide. Had the customary Moules, Frittes and beer. A nice weekend away before starting another week at work!
My wife and I enjoyed the sightseeing tour around Lille. We would recommend it to anyone who is visiting this city as a way to see the important sights and highlights of the city.
It was a wonderfully detailed trip with a devoted guide who had some excellent knowledge on the subject matter. The beauty lies in the details the little stops on deserted roads accompanied by a historical tale were very nice. The tour left me in awe of the events of the past. One thing to note we only had 30 minutes at the Thiepval Memorial, which is really too little to see the monument, graveyard and centre itself.
It was a comprehensive trip around Lille showing everything the town had to offer. The driver was very informative. My only concern as a severe asthmatic was that a fellow passenger took a dog on board - don't know if this is usual for the French! We managed to communicate, and he sat at the other end of the bus.
Would have liked the opportunity to get off and on the tour buses at random. But despite this, we did enjoy the tour.
We joined an already existing group of two days who had, by the time we joined, some knowledge of the battle fields of WW1 but the guide helped us catch up. Being a small group was helpful. What would have helped more would have been to have a map of the battlefields and the journey we were making through them so as to get our bearings.
Excellent tour, very knowledgeable guide. He was very accommodating with specific site visits depending on what participants wanted to see, especially with regard to relative's battle experiences. The time flies on this tour.
It started off badly with the tour waiting an hour and 15 minutes for people from the Eurostar. This meant a late arrival back at Lille - a problem if on trains - but also we lost a significant amount of time that we could have been on the battlefields and wandering about. This aspect was most disappointing, and not many options for food for lunch - a few hastily thrown together sandwiches without much topping - so bring your own. But a good experience to see the battle sites.
The sites visited were well chosen and the transport was good and safely driven. For this one, take your own lunch as it's a fairly full day. Verify departure time and meeting place by phone as there can be ambiguity.
