The Grand National is a particularly difficult steeplechase for horses and riders, with 16 infamous obstacles to leap including tree-covered fences and a water jump.
The 4.5-mile (7km) race was won three times by the legendary steed Red Rum, who is buried by the Grand National finishing post at Aintree.
The Grand National is held in April, and six other race days are held at Aintree over the year.
If you can’t attend the race, drop into the Grand National Experience at Aintree’s visitor center for a tour of the weighing-in room, a visit to the winner’s enclosure and stables, and time to pay your respects at Red Rum’s final resting place.
As well as hosting the legendary horserace, Aintree Racecourse is also the venue for conferences, exhibitions, live music and golf. The racecourse has a range of bars and restaurants, stands, suites and boxes.
