It may be most well-known as the home of the Beatles, but there's more to Liverpool than its former famous residents (although the Beatles Story and other related attractions are certainly worth a visit). Historically, Liverpool was a huge port city, with 40 percent of the world’s trade passing through its port in the early 1800s; today, its UNESCO World Heritage-listed waterfront is a big tourist draw. Named the European Capital of Culture in 2008, Liverpool is also home to art galleries, museums and lovely Georgian architecture.
