I enjoyed our guide. He was great. I wish we had more time at Windsor Castle. It seemed rather frentic at the Windsor Castle end as if they have never dealt with an influx of tourists.
It was seriously awesome!! The only thing i didnt like was leaving the places. Windsor castle was to die for (not litterally). Seeing the chapel was amaizing. We asked the usher in the chapel about the room with the flags in it and got some really interesting information about it. The flags and pedistals are each made for knights of modern day and we looked below us and Henery the VIII's tomb was below us. Totaly crazy when you think about it. Our tour guide was good and gave a bus tour as we drove from place to place. Was cheeaper to book through Viator than directly through the tour group.
My husband and I visited London with another couple this past week. I was in charge of making up an itinerary for us so I thought it would be fun to do a day trip. We chose the Stonehenge, Bath and Windsor tour in a small group coach (15 people plus the guide)
Our tour guide was Tony and he had us laughing immediately. This guy had a world of knowledge and it was very interesting hearing some of the back stories you don't always read about in the history books.(not to mention his knowledge of cars which was the subject of much conversation with the men!)
We visited Stonehenge first thing in the morning, which was perfect because the crowds had not yet arrived... You are given a hand held tour recording to listen to while you circle around the site but we never even turned ours on because Tony led us around and gave us his own tour. It made it so much more interesting!
Next... we went to Bath. We toured the ancient pools and tried to imagine what it was like in it's days of splendor! Afterwards, a few of us met up with Tony for a walking tour of the city. He led us around and pointed out some amazing historical sites with a full commentary of what we were seeing. It was a much more personal experience rather than being herded around like cattle.
Last but not least, we headed to Windsor Castle. The Queen had a luncheon for her diamond Jubilee celebration so the castle was closed to the public... There were a lot of great shops for finding some UK treasures though!
All in all, it was a wonderful day... I would HIGHLY recommend this company!
The trip itself was great but we didn't spend enough time in Windsor or Oxford. Windsor Castle is located in a charming town and basically we only got 1.5 hrs to spend at the castle. We spent a few minutes watching the changing of the guards, hurried through the castle and grabbed aquick lunch to eat on the bus. We could have used twice the amount of time to really enjoy the castle and spend some time in the area around it. Stonehenge was very chilly so the brief stop there was fine. We then proceeded to Oxford where once again we were rushed through a quick tour and a brief view of the town. I think the tour tries to pack too much in one day. The tour guide was just fair. The buses were comfortable and all in all it was a great day.
Windsor castle was great and the artwork in the State Rooms where the Queen entertains her guests (but disappointingly not our tour group!) was extraordinary. The Roman baths at Bath were definitely worth seeing and they have done a great job in displaying them and the associated history. It was cold and bleak by the time we arrived at Stonehenge but somehow this added to the enjoyment. Trevor our guide was very good
This was by far the best tour I have been part of. I have used Viator when I traveled to Hong Kong as well and as usual they were prompt and punctual. What made the Stonehenge, Windsor Castle and Bath day trip even more special and memorable was our tour guide, he was extraordinary. His passion and interest in each one of us was touching. He had all the answers and he our trip very special. I wish him all the best and congratulate Viator on taking extra care of us making sure our tour was enjoyable. Thank you ever so much.
I felt like one day wasn't long enough to do everything that was planned for this day trip. I could've spent a whole day at Windsor Castle alone. The whole day felt quite rushed and I felt pressured to rush through so as not to miss the bus. By the time we got through the queues at each place, we only had between one and one and half hours to explore. I also didn't like that the audio guide didn't have headphones. This made it difficult to take photos and listen to the guide at the same time.
Very disappointed on the Oxford part of the trip. The tour description clearly states "your guide will take you on a walking tour to see Christ Church where the Harry Potter series was filmed". While I knew only the outside scenes were filmed there I was looking forward to seeing it and taking pictures but our guide said that wasn't part of the tour and when our bus driver drove to a street where we could have a partial far away look at it she said we should thank him for going out of his way to give us a glimpse of the church. Windsor Castle was very rushed and needed much more time there to see anything besides the State Apartments. This tour is too crammed in with the 3 locations, should only be Windsor and Stonehenge OR Oxford and Stonehenge.
Mel, our guide, made the tour special. Not enough time at Windsor due to a program rehersal which delayed our entry. More time on the bus (6 hours) than at venues.
A lot to see in one day! Guide was informative. Travel time between towns is long. Would prefer to only see 2 out of the 3 and spend longer there. Meant to have 2 hours at Windsor but by the time bus parks away from centre of town, walk in, line up for security and you get in, there's only an hour and a half left before you have to be back at bus....also need to find time for a toilet break ( none on bus) and buy something to eat (no lunch otherwise). Does limit the amount that can be seen. The queue to see the dolls house meant we had to skip that and wizzed thru chapel without time to listen to recorded commentary.
Bus seats are narrower than others I've been on, without lots of leg room ( and no recline). This tour was operated by Evans Evans.
As long as you are aware you are only getting a taste of these places in the amount of time then do it. We did enjoy it all but would have loved more time at Windsor and Oxford. 45 minutes at Stonehenge was plenty....especially as it can be particularly cold there! Only had 40 minutes free time in Oxford (again toilet break included.....not many loos about!).
At Windsor Castle, I managed to visit Queen Mary's doll house, the State Apartments and St George's Chapel albeit at a rushed pace. We were given only 2 hours there but the queueing and waiting to get into the castle took half an hour. Then there is another queue to see the Doll House and the State Apartments. When I was there, the queue wasn't that long but if there are more people, you can skip the doll house and join a shorter queue to go to the State Apartments directly. At 11am, there was a guard changing ceremony near St George's Chapel but I didn't have time to watch the entire ceremony as I was only left with little time to visit St George's Chapel. Stonehenge was slightly better as I had just enough time to finish my tour with the audio-guide. At Oxford, we were given 40 minutes of free time to visit the colleges or to shop. I went to 2 colleges nearby to see their quadrangle, chapel and dinning hall but if you are a Harry Potter's fan and want to visit the further Christ Church College which inspired some scenes in the movie, be prepared to walk for 20 minutes pay £8 for entrance (other colleges charge about £2). You only have time to snap pictures but won't have time to enjoy the place. Overall, I am quite happy with the trip as i get to see what I wanted and the price is reasonable.
Very good guide. A lot of time on bus but interesting to see some of the English countryside. Wished that we had more time to spend at both Bath and Windsor. Both lovely looking place and we found both tours very interesting. Our weather was very cool so Stonehenge vas interesting but just too darn cold to spend much time out there. A long day but certainly a ver enjoyable one.
We enjoyed our trip. We really only wanted Stonehenge and Windsor but could not find a tour for just those 2 locations. It would be nice to add an excursion like that.
Windsor castle was closed at the last minute so we diverted to Hampton Court. This was an excellent and educational location to visit. Stonehenge and Bath were very interesting. The guide was helpful and knowledgeable during the bus rides but this tour leaves you on your own when you get to each of the locations. I did enjoy it but it still needs some sparkle to get a 5 star review
This trip is an absolute must! It's a lot to do in one day but for people that are efficient and take in stuff pretty fast it's highly recommended.
Windsor castle was amazing, all the history and information (our tour guide was fantastic the entire day!). Windsor is a lot to do in the 2 hours they give you though, we found ourselves a little short on time when we made it to St. Georges Chapel, so make sure you save 45 mins of your time for that in the end! There are also plenty of food shops for you to grab some food to eat on the coach until you arrive at your next stop.
Bath was a quaint town, with lots of history. The tour of the Roman Baths was interesting, with great photo ops. Also you are given time to walk around the city and eat/explore/shop. We just walked through the museum and looked around instead of doing the audio tour and had plenty of time to walk around the town as well.
Stonehenge was the last stop. Interesting and beautiful landmark... you are a little beat up and tired by the time you get there, but really it is just meant as a stop to see it, take some photos and you're done (in my opinion).
This tour was awesome, well worth the money and a great way to see lots all in one day. We had a great time, but would not recommend this for older people who cannot move through stuff quickly (we kept telling ourselves that our parents would of been left at Windsor
Castle b/c they would be taking too much time looking at every thing :P)
