While the Spanish capital, Madrid, isn’t short of things to do, there are fantastic day trips and longer tours to discover the rich history of this beautiful Spanish region.

Alcalá is the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes, the famous Spanish author whose classic Don Quixote is regularly cited as the best book ever written. Travel through the legendary country of Don Quixote to the medieval city of Cordoba, once regarded as the most advanced, enlightened city in Europe. Architecture spans the ages from Roman times to when there was a thriving Jewish population. The Jewish quarter is hugely atmospheric, leading to Córdoba’s star attraction - Mezquita cathedral that was once a mosque.
Journey deep into the heart of Andalucia to the thriving resorts of the Costa del Sol. Built on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, Seville displays a rich Arab legacy, every street and square that makes up the historic quarter of the Andalusian capital bursts with joy and activity.
At the foot of Sierra Nevada lies Granada, last stronghold of the Moorish kingdoms. Granada has a distinctly Arab influence with the amazing architecture of the Alhambra, and Generalife Gardens amongst the highlights.
Once the Spanish capital, glorious Toledo is filled with amazing medieval architecture, and a strong Jewish, Muslim and Christian heritage. Art fans go straight to Museo El Greco, widely considered to be the finest Spanish artist of all time.
Segovia is a spectacularly located above the parched, dusty plains. The Roman-built aqueduct is Segovia’s most iconic image, an astounding feat of engineering. The Alcazar, a beautiful 11th-century medieval fort, is lavishly decorated inside and the views from the top of the tower are incredible. Segovia is renowned for its suckling pig and lamb.
