Brilliant trip. Not to be missed. Very informative with clear instructions at the sanctuary. Fantastic to see these beautiful animals in their own environment.
The park is quite a long way from KK itself but the scenery to be seen on the drive itself makes it all worth it. During the day we made several stops to go into the rain forest to see the indigenous plants and flowers including the Rafflesia. Also visited the hot springs and the butterfly park.
Awesome. A great way to get up close and personal with the Orangutan's whilst also knowing that you are contributing to their rehabilitation. I went at feeding time and it was not in any way crowded. The logistics of getting to and from Sandakan and Sepilok were well organized. As a single traveler I had to pay a 100% supplement to be able to complete this tour. Expensive (for me) but well worth it, a great experience.
My advice would be to check weather any flowers are in bloom before going on this tour...We got to see a budd about to bloom, a new budd and a dying flower but unfortunately no actual flowers were in bloom. The walk through the rainforest however was beautiful!
Worth doing, but not with this tour company. The guide kept telling us it was not his usual tour, and that he wasn't really interested in these type of tours. Felt like he wanted to go home ASAP.
The tour to the Orang Utan sanctuary was really well organised, efficient & a great excursion. We were lucky to be able to stand on the boardwalk with an Orang Utan playfully rolling near our feet. Watching the feeding session was entertaining & the information session about the sanctuary was very informative. We asked to see the Sandakan Memorial instead of visiting the Buddist temple & this was easily & efficiently organised. The excursion was well worth the cost & highly recommended.
Our visit to Sepilok was excellent and the orangutans were very visible. The add on visit to the Buddhist temple was out of context and of little interest. Lunch at the English tea house was disappointing, even if serviced with good Malaysian hospitality.
Our trip was like $30 more expensive than the normal local tours I saw. Although we did have the van exclusively. But the food for lunch was simple and not of good quality. I have used Viator for other tours in other countries but this is one that I would not recommend because it is overpriced and the food is not of good quality. The guide was so-so in narration but was accomodating, as was the driver. But I think for the price difference, it's not worth it.
We visited the park and botanical garden, had lunch, and then drove to Poring Hot Springs. On the way to the Springs, we were very fortunate to see the Raffalisia flower in bloom. This was one of the highlights of our 10 day trip to Borneo!! The 12-story high canopy walk-way. was another feature of this trip. I have seen other canopy walk-ways but this one is the most "rustic"--being only a plank inside a net--very exciting.
We had a great time on this tour. The view of Mt Kinabalu is fantastic. The canopy is a little tough as it is so hot and humid. It is worth the experience.
Early start to fly over to Sandakan and the Sepilok Centre but well worth it. Very, very hot and humid throughout the feeding time so make sure you take water. There are plenty of orangutans on view but also plenty of people. You need a good camera to be able to take good shots and preferably a tripod although when we went two of the orangutan actually got onto the viewing platform!! Brilliant experience.
We skipped the video show, so we went in early and there were five orangutans playing near the rangers on the viewing platform. When more people arrived, they went back into the rain forest, but soon reappeared when the food did. Everything was very well organized: we had a great guide who was very informative and helpful. This experience is not to be missed, but we were very lucky as well.
