Managua’s Ruben Dario National Theater, built in the 1960s, is considered the most important theater in Nicaragua. It was one of the few buildings in Managua that didn’t crumble in the 1972 earthquake that destroyed the vast majority of the city, and it remains a center of culture in Nicaragua.

The main hall at the Ruben Dario theater holds 1,200 people and international acts are frequently on the schedule. A smaller hall often showcases artwork and hosts less well-known acts, including more local performers. Although it is a premier performance venue in the country, tickets are often quite reasonably priced - still, you shouldn’t try to show up in shorts and flip-flops. The theater is located on Lake Managua, next to the Malecón.
