One of Mazatlan's main attractions are its phenomenal beaches. Whether you’re in the city and just want a quick dip in the ocean, or you're out in the countryside exploring all the best day trips from Mazatlan, there are some world-class beach spots that will pique your interest. Miles of coastal beaches line Mazatlan and its surrounding landscape, so you'll have a selection. Here's a quick breakdown of some of Mazatlan's best beaches.

Best Beach for Surfing
Mazatlan's best beach to catch waves is undoubtedly Playa Bruja (Witch Beach) located just North of the city. Here you'll find waves that regularly reach 8-10 feet high from a gently breaking left. Didn't bring your surfboard? No problem. You'll find vendors there allowing you to rent one. This beach is also a good stop for anyone looking to get out of the sometimes crowded beach scene. Body boards are also available for rental, and chances are you'll likely spot some amazing body boarders out in the water when you visit. Get here by taking a bus or taxi to the north end of Zona Dorada.

Most Popular Beach
Mazatland has many popular beaches, but Playa Sabalo and the adjacent Beach Cerritos are probably the most popular. They’re both located in the northern end of the city. Playa Sabalo begins at the north end of Zona Dorada (Golden Zone) and the water is calm and warm. If you're looking to get out on the water and try your hand at jetskiing, sailing, parasailing, or any one of a number of great water activities, these two beaches are where to do it.

Best All-Around Beach
No beach list would be complete without mentioning Stone Island. With only 4000 permanent inhabitants, Stone Island makes for a perfect beach escape. The five minute ferry ride cuts down on a lot of traffic, and there is enough of a population here to support amenities. You'll enjoy the view of the Mazatlan cityscape, the beach bungalows, and the random wandering mariachis. You can also rent snorkels, boats, ATVs, and tour guides of the island – thus making Stone Island a great day trip in and of itself.
