Melbourne's Best Views
By Viator, May 2013
Eureka Skydeck 88
The Eureka Tower, on Melbourne’s Southbank, has 360-degree views of the city and is the Southern Hemisphere’s highest viewing platform. Pay extra and experience The Edge – a glass cube that juts out from the side of the building.
Hot Air Ballooning
For a really special experience consider seeing the city from a hot air balloon. Most experiences include a champagne breakfast option. You can also choose to fly over the Yarra Valley wine region (with views to Melbourne) instead of directly over the city.
Roof Top Bars
There are plenty of bars in the city with rooftop drinking areas. Mix with the locals at one of the following spots: Rooftop Bar, Madame Brussels, Siglo or Blue Diamond.
Dining in Style
There’s nothing like enjoying a fine wine and a top-notch meal while the city lights twinkle below. If money’s no option then try Vue De Monde on the 55th floor of Melbourne’s Rialto building. If you can afford to splash out but not completely blow the budget then try No.35 inside the Sofitel, Melbourne on Collins.
Scenic helicopter or light plane rides are surprisingly good value and offer an exhilarating way to see the city sights.
And from afar:
SkyHigh, Mt Dandenong
The Mount Dandenong Observatory sits high up in the hills of the same name about an hours drive east of Melbourne. Night views of the city are particularly lovely.
The Camels Hump, Mt Macedon
Macedon is about an hours drive northeast of Melbourne. The Camels Hump and Memorial Cross lookout is the highest point in the Macedon Ranges. Take an easy stroll from the car park to the peak for panoramic views of Melbourne and surrounds.
