Yarra Valley Wine Tours
Good for Honeymoons, Good Place to Drink, Good Place to Eat, Romantic, River, Winery
As one of Victoria's premier wine regions, mention the Yarra Valley to a local and you'll hear a daydreamy sigh as they envisage the emerald glow of the valleys and the straw-gold glow of the wine.
A visit to the Yarra Valley makes for an ideal day trip from Melbourne. It's 50km east of Melbourne, an easy hour's drive from the CBD that roughly echoes the route of the Yarra River. While the landscape of undulating hills and eucalyptus forests is a major drawcard for visitors to the area, not to mention the day spas, gourmet produce and the romantic getaway factor, it's the wine scene that lures them most.
The Yarra Valley is a cool climate region but because the landscape
includes high peaks and valley floors, it's able to produce a number of
varieties. There are 90 vineyards in the Yarra Valley, and around 35
wineries so wondering which one to start out at can be a dizzying task.
A Yarra Valley Wine and Winery Tour
will take in three of the big-hitters – Rochford, Yering Station and
Domaine Chandon. Your guide will tell you what to look out for as you
go tasting at the cellar doors (Domaine Chandon's sparklings are
spectacular). Stop for lunch at Rochford Winery before an afternoon of
tastings at rustic Yering Station. If you want something more
personalized, you can always take a private tour of the wineries – just you, a luxury vehicle and as many or as few wineries as you'd like to try.
If you've got a real gourmet leaning, a Yarra Valley Food and Wine Small Group Tour
takes in not only the wines of the area but the fruit and cheese too,
with a private cheese tasting at the 100-year-old Yarra Valley Dairy.
But for something truly glorious and completely memorable, take a Sunrise Balloon Flight and Winery Tour over the valley and wineries, culminating in a gourmet champagne breakfast. So, are we ready to let the good times roll?!

Had a great day on this tour. Plenty of opportunities for wine tasting. The cheese tasting in the trophy room at De Bortoli didn't go as planned (just a last minute bit of cheese at the bar) but that wasn't the tour operator's fault. It seems that De Bortoli had a few staff call in sick that day. Lunch at Domaine (with 4 half glasses of wine) was the highlight. I thoroughly recommend the tour. Our host was very informative.
