Mexico City opens its museums for the night

Due to the great success last year, in 2011 several museums and historical places in downtown Mexico City will open during the night, the last Wednesday of each month. The opening hours will be from 7pm to 10pm.

This is of special interest to people that cannot visit a museum during normal working hours like businessmen with a tight agenda or someone that has only a short stay in Mexico cCty. There will be more than 10 museums in this program including:

-Museo del Estanquillo (Collection of Carlos Monsivais writer)

-Museo de la Ciudad de México (the City museum)

-Museo Archivo de la Fotografía (photos of old Mexico)

-Archivo Histórico del Distrito Federal (archive and library of Mexico City)

-Antiguo Palacio del Ayuntamiento (city hall)

-Palacio de la Escuela de Medicina (this is the palace of the inquisition)

-Museo Nacional de Arte (Museum of Mexican art)

-Museo Mural Diego Rivera (place of one of the famous murals of Diego)

-Centro Cultural de España

-Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso (place for expositions and murals)

-Palacio de Iturbide (this holds the Collection of Banamex)

-Museo Franz Mayer (of aplícate arts)

Some of the museums could be closed due to special events so it's better to check if the place you are interested in visiting is open to the public. The next programmed dates of night visits are: March 30, April 27, May 25, June 29, July 27, August 31, September 28, October 26, November 30.
