The sprawling Twin Cities display distinct personalities. Minneapolis is young, forward thinking and environmentally aware, with all the progressive prosperity trimmings - coffee shops, organic and ethnic eateries, rock clubs and enough theaters to be nicknamed the Little Apple (second only the Big Apple, New York City, in per capita venues).

St Paul is quiet and dignified, lorded over by a massive old cathedral and refined mansions.

Things to Do in the Twin Cities

Visit the Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. Walk the trail by St Anthony Falls, the power source of the timber and flour mills that gave rise to the city. Have dinner and drinks in Uptown, a hip punk-yuppie neighborhood. Find a noisy rock club (the city is filled with them).

Peek in the Cathedral of St Paul, then stroll by the mansions of the Summit-Shelby neighborhood, F. Scott Fitzgerald's old stomping ground. Take a break at Grand Avenue's restaurants.
