Monaco Travelers Recommend
The official capital of the Principality of Monaco is the city of Monaco, which shares the same territory as the country itself. Situated on a rocky promontory overlooking the Mediterranean Sea is the quarter ("quartier") of Monaco-Ville, known locally as "le rocher" or "the rock," and still much like a medieval village. While small, it's bursting with gorgeous scenery, quiet pedestrian streets and world-famous attractions such as the Prince's Palace and the impressive, cliff side Oceanographic Museum.
Monte Carlo is best known for its decadent Grand Casino, popular beaches and general opulence. Fontvielle boasts lovely Fontvielle Park and a harbor teeming with sleek yachts. The quarter known as La Condamine is home to busy, deep-water Port Hercule. And if you're visiting Monaco in late May, order tickets well in advance for the renowned Monaco Formula One Grand Prix race, which runs at top speed through the city's winding streets.
