Visit Monterey County’s Wineries
By Viator, June 2013
Many of Monterey County’s wineries have tasting rooms where guests can taste wines and learn about, and sometimes tour, the winery. Usually only a modest fee is charged. The wine trolley tour is a good option if you want to take in several different tasting rooms.
A Taste of Monterey
Located on Cannery Row, one block from the Monterey Bay Aquarium, A Taste of Monterey features a rotating selection of wines representing 85 Monterey County wineries. This is a great introduction for someone who is on a tight schedule or cannot drive around and visit the wineries personally. It is set up in a tasting bar style, but you can also order from the menu and take a seat at a table overlooking the bay.
At the relaxed and cozy Morgan tasting room in Carmel, you can sample a variety of reserve and regular Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs and Syrahs. Wines are reasonably priced and staff are attentive and knowledgeable.
Beautifully situated in the Santa Lucia Highlands, and with a recently added tasting room in Salinas, Talbott offers tastings of their crisp Chardonnays and fruity Pinot Noirs. You can sip your wine on the patio while admiring the owner’s collection of vintage motorcycles.
Ventana’s cozy tasting room is set in an attractive location next door to a restaurant and surrounded by pine trees. After sampling the winery’s Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Muscat, for starters, you can head out onto the patio for a picnic.
