Higher than the Niagara Falls, the impressive Montmorency Falls stand 83 meters (272 feet) tall. The falls form at the mouth of the Montmorency River, where it drops over a cliff into the St. Lawrence River. On summer nights, the plunging water is illuminated; during July and August, the falls are enhanced by a spectacular international fireworks competition.

Montmorency Falls is surrounded by Parc de la Chute-Montmorency, where visitors can see the falls while having a picnic. If you want to get a close-up view of the falls, you can take the staircase, which takes you from top to bottom, or take a suspension bridge over the crest of the falls, which enables you to see both sides of the park as well as the thundering water.

The trip was great and the sightseeing amazing ! Quebec city is beautiful and Montmorency Falls stunning. However the biggest flaw in the trip , which they should rectify right away , was that we were given too little time at Montmorency falls where one can easily spend an hour or so and too much time at Quebec city ( 3 hours). They should give one hour time at the falls and two hours to explore the city.

Practical Info

To reach Montmorency Falls by car, take Autoroute 20 northeast from Montreal to Québec City. Then take Autoroute 440 east out of Québec City. Watch for the exit to the falls and the parking lot. If you miss the exit, you'll see the falls on your left and will be able to make a U-turn.

Nearby, Manoir Montmorency is a villa that contains an interpretation center, a café, and a restaurant.
