Dachau Concentration Camp was the first of its kind opened in Germany by the Nazi government in 1933, and it served as a model for later concentration camps. Designed to hold Jews, political prisoners, and other "undesirables," the camp is now a memorial to the more than 40,000 people who died and over 200,000 who were imprisoned here during the Nazi regime. The memorial was established in 1965, 20 years after Dachau was liberated by American forces.

An English documentary of Dachau plays in the museum part of the memorial at 11:30 am, 2 pm, and 3:30 pm and the "Path of the Prisoners" exhibit sheds light on the lives of those in the concentration camp. Although a sobering excursion, many visitors find the trip extremely moving and informative about the Holocaust.

A very moving trip and the tour guide had extensive knowledge and was willing to answer every question asked of him. A shame the weathewr wasnt nicer to us but it did highlight the miserable conditions the people suffered during their detention in Dachau.

Snowy day which was fitting for a tour of Dachau. Our tour guide was invaluable to this tour. His knowledge of the history of the camp before the war and during helped to understand the memorial. Would not have fully understood the information on our own.

The Dachau Tour was very informative and our guide was very knowlegeable of Dachau. She was very attentive to the size of the group, keeping us informed on the train and bus on our way to Dachau. The tour was well organized and allowed plenty of time for reflection at many of the exhibits and buildings. Throughout she would stop our group and have additional information for us.

Just a short trip from Munich, Dachau is easily reached on a day trip. Take the S2 train toward Dachau, about a 25-minute ride from Munich's Central Station. Then hop on bus 726 towards "Saubachsiedlung" to the entrance of the Memorial Site ("KZ-Gedenkstätte").
