Doing what: Royal Castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Day Tour from Munich
We did this tour with our 9 year old daughter on a beautiful sunny day early in May this year and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The bus was modern and comfortable and left on time without a hitch. Our tour guide was an older gentleman with a quirky sense of humour (which we loved!), and a vast knowledge of every aspect of the day from the minute we left Munich city til our return in the evening.
Because of the good weather and the fact it was a Sunday meant that he anticipated greater crowds than normal at the castles so the guide phoned ahead and organised to switch the order of the day so we actually went to Neuschwanstein first then Uberammergau township then Linderhof Castle in the afternoon. This proved to be a good decision on his part as we didn't really encounter any huge crowds and the morning sun at Neuschwanstein was gorgeous!
We didn't find any problems with timing throughout the day although we did get back to Munich about 45 mins late due to heavy traffic returning to the city after a lovely Sunday. We chose to walk up the road to Neuschwanstein castle which was pretty easy if you're moderately fit and took about 15-20 mins. I would recommend this as the scenery and forest surrounds are really peaceful and pretty plus the shuttle bus up the hill costs extra so why not walk it if you feel up to it!
The extra walk up to the bridge above the castle is a MUST for the incredible view and photo opportunity!
The castle tours were both fairly short but very informative and fascinating to see as everything in the castles is untouched and unrenovated since King Ludwig's death. Our daughter says that this day was here favourite of our three and a half weeks travelling through Europe and she remembers every detail of information given in the tours and on the bus from our guide!!!
A really great tour, especially if the weather is nice!

Doing what: Royal Castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Day Tour from Munich
This is a trip worth making. On the way to Linderhof and Neuschwanstein, the scenery of the German countryside is astounding. In comparison, Linderhof has more to offer than Neuschwanstein. Linderhof is elaborately finished whilst Neuschwanstein is more of just a castle. The in-house guide at Linderhof was much better than that at Neuschwanstein and I guess our impression of Linderhof was thus much better. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the trip very much.

Markus was a great tour guide. There is a LOT of walking up hill to Neuschwanstein and that should be explained so everyone knows. A great way to see the castles at Linderhof and Neuschwanstein.

Doing what: Royal Castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Day Tour from Munich
I really enjoyed seeing Neuschwanstein and Linderhof. The scenery was beautiful and the tour went very smoothly. Te guides are helpful and we had a great driver. It is usually a large group tour of about 100 so there isn't a lot of flexibly in the schedule.

Doing what: Royal Castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Day Tour from Munich
A great tour although I personnaly did not like the shopping stop in a village before heading to Neuschwanstein. The time spent at Linderhof was a little bit short to explore the gardens so I am glad I visited it in March! The guide was very nice and knowledgeable as well. Globally, I am satisfied with it and would recommend anyone to do it.

Doing what: Royal Castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Day Tour from Munich
This was a fabulous tour. The bus was clean and comfortable. The tour guide was friendly and did her best to manage a bus full of tourists from different countries with language barriers (ear phones were given to those who did not understand English). The countryside as we traveled was exquisite. Our first stop was Linderhoff. Time was limited, and there is a bit of a walk to the palace. If you have physical issues, this may be an issue. I was traveling with my son in a wheelchair, which proved difficult uphill, and over snow (we traveled in March). The palace tour was brief and we barely had time to get back down to the bus. No time for souvenir shopping, however we were forewarned of this. Next stop Oberammergau. Gorgeous town with storied history and Fairy Tale painted homes. Again, only a brief stop off for souvenir shopping. Harried, but fun. Then we arrived finally at our final destination, Neuschwanstein castle. Idyllic. Breathtaking. Again, be forewarned, the castle sits high atop a mountain. It is a 30 minute hike, or you can secure a ride on a horse drawn buggy, which brings you almost to the top, but not all the way. Your entrance ticket (BTW...entrance to the castles is not included in tour price, it is separate) has a time for your tour. Be sure to be there in time. Again, only enough time after the tour to make your way down the mountain and back to the bus. We had about 4 hours at our last stop. So, you can eat lunch, shop, and make your way up the mountain. We had to wait in a long line for the horse carriage, so we did not have time for lunch. All the stops were gorgeous, and the information and history given by the tour leader was super, the only problem was the time constraints. I don't know how you would do this on your own however, so I recommend this tour. We met great fun people, and all in all it was a fun, beautiful day.

Doing what: Royal Castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Day Tour from Munich
I took this tour recently, and was pleased with the day. Our pick up point was easily found in Munich, and the coach comfortable. Our tour guide was informative, and very timely. I did find the day very rushed, as timing was tight. The drive to the Linderhof palace was great, on the autobahn, and up into the still snow covered mountains. The palace was beautiful, and we had a quick tour inside. Then we went onto a small village, where we had enough time for a quick coffee before heading to the Neuschwanstien castle. Unfortunately the weather and visabilty was very poor on our trip, which meant any views of the castle were scrouded in mist. There was a queue of about 40 mins to ride the horse and cart up to the castle, so we walked up at a brisk pace, and made it to the top in about 20mins.
The castle was stunning, when you got close, the sencic view point from the bridge was closed due to bad westher, lots of snow and ice, which was a real shame.
The tour inside the castle was brief and we were ushered through very quickly, was a little disappointed you didn't get to see more, and the castle guide lacked enthusiasm.
The gifts shops were very expensive too!
The walk back down gave great views of the village and the smaller castle, which was impressive too.
Our bus tour guide, was both entertaining and informative, and kept the group on schedule.
I would recommended this tour, but try and pick a sunny clear day to visit!(I will be returning in the summer, when hopefully there will no mist and the chance to get much improved photo opportunities!)

Doing what: Royal Castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Day Tour from Munich
This tour in a long day but I highly recommend it. The weather in March was great with bright sun on the snowy countryside. The hike to the castle is challenging and the road was slushy. Our guide recommended a wonderful Bavarian restaurant and the shopping was great. Linderhof was great (bring food for the swans) but the highlight was Neushwanstein. Loved the small crowds in the off season but would love to return in summer.

Doing what: Royal Castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Day Tour from Munich
Great tour! Neuschwanstein is beautiful. So was Linderhof. The drive to both castles was through some of Switzerland's beautiful countryside. Our tour guide, Brigitte, was very good as well. My only criticism is that they should have left out the stop in Oberammergau. It was just too short to do much and took time away from touring and shopping around Neuschwanstein. We felt a bit rushed there to eat lunch and shop. I've seen other comments where people enjoyed the stop at Oberammergau, so I guess it definitley a personal perspective.

Excellent day trip. Tour guide Ana - brilliant, very informative, nothing too much trouble. Really glad we did this trip to include Linderhof and Oberammergau, as Linderhof was beautiful with all the snow. I would have liked longer in Oberammergau, only had time for a quick coffee but no shopping.

Doing what: Royal Castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Day Tour from Munich
This was a lovely tour. Linderhof was exquisite. We went in late November so missed out on the gardens etc. Of course spring and summer is the best time to visit. We did not have a choice, so we don't know any differently. The tour I would do again, as the convenience and ease of this trip was so nice. I believe much nicer than taking a train for the tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and courteous.

Doing what: Royal Castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Day Tour from Munich
Coming at the end of a 10 week trip, this was a long day but was good-we could have had a little more time at Llinderhof but the experience was good. Oberamergau was a great experience and we felt fortunate to have had an hour to explore the delightful little town. After a very pleasant lunch at Mulers Hotel (own expense) we walked to the Neuschwanstein Castle for our appointed tour which was definitely well organised as far as entry was concerned. Our tour was a large one so it was a little difficult to hear all the narration also we felt peeved that some members of the group lagged behind and continually snapped photos (which would dearly have loved to have done but rules are rules!!!) Maybe they need a follow up person to prevent this from happening. All in all the castle tour was great and the Bus Trip was very good with our guide providing background history along the way-she also organised the purchase and distribution of the tickets very efficiently - all in all - it was a tiring but great day out filled with beatiful scenery.
