1. Schweinbraten
In a city that favors meat over all else, it comes as little surprise that one of Bavaria’s most beloved dishes is a no-go for vegetarians. Schweinbraten, a slow-roasted pork loin cooked up in dark beer and famed for its rich flavor, graces menus all over Munich and is typically served alongside other German staples like sauerkraut (fermented cabbage) Knödel (see number 5) and gravy.
