Comment from Naples Expert: Fabio
Take advantage and visit the city of Naples, Italy during the America's Cup competition!
What is America's Cup?
America's Cup is a trophy awarded to the winner of the America's Cup match races between two yachts. One yacht, known as the defender, represents the yacht cup that currently holds the title and the second yacht, known as the challenger, represents the yacht club that is challenging for the cup. America's Cup is the oldest active trophy in international sport. The trophy was originally awarded in 1851 by the Royal Yacht Squadron.
The history and prestige associated with America's Cup attracts not only the world's top sailors and yacht designers but also the involvement of wealthy entrepreneurs and sponsors. It is a test not only of sailing skill and boat and sail design, but also of fund-raising and management skills.
The city of Napoli got a deal to host events for two years of America's Cup, the first from April 7-15, 2012 and next year’s May 11-19, 2013
The contest will take place at a pedestrian area near the seaside in Naples!
About Naples
The seaside of Napoli is famous for the landscapes with the Mount Vesuvius volcano in the background. Several other monuments are also of interest, such as Castle of Ovo, New Castle, the Royal Palace and more!
While there, you can try the best pizza in the world; eat in some outdoor restaurant feeling the sea breeze as the races take place. Then have a walk in the ancient downtown area, visiting monuments and Gothic churches along the way.
Don't miss this opportunity!
