Admit it - just as you think LA when you think 'long-haired rocker' and Chicago when you think 'steamy blues' - when you think Nashville, you've got country music on your mind. And why not?

Banners and billboards announce new recording stars like accolades in a high school yearbook, and streets bear the names of country legends like Roy Acuff and Chet Atkins. As the self-proclaimed 'Country Music Capital of the World', Nashville revels in its down-home glamour.

Suggested Itineraries in Nashville

It's no surprise that most of Nashville's festivities (and there are a lot of them) centre on music. Headliner music festivals make Nashvillians shake their collective booty at regular intervals throughout the year, some of them stretching on for months at a time.

Each Thursday evening from May to September, the city hosts free concerts at Riverfront Park. From late May to mid-August, the Tennessee Jazz & Blues concert series enlivens the grounds of Belle Meade Plantation and the Hermitage. And on the Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, Opryland makes a joyous noise with its Gospel Jubilee.

Millennium Maxwell House Hotel Nashville

Though the Millennium Maxwell is an international chain, it makes a big effort to add local color to its Nashville hotel. All guests receive a complimentary made-in-Nashville 'Goo Goo' cluster candy bar upon arrival and rooms are adorned with prints from the venerable Hatch Show Prints downtown.

Hotel Preston

Outside is a busy Nashville highway, but inside, it's 1968 London in the Hotel Preston. This tastefully mod establishment is full of groovy touches, from the molded plastic armchairs on the sidewalk to the bubble chandeliers in the lobby.
