Light rain. More clouds than sun. Cool.
7 day forecast
It has its rivals, but when most people say the words 'New York observation deck' and 'skyscraper', the 102-story Empire State Building immediately springs to mind. The world's tallest building from 1931 to 1977, the Empire State is currently the tallest building in NYC.

The iconic skyscraper is topped with a stepped Art Deco pinnacle that's floodlit at night and boasts holiday and commemorative colors throughout the year - green for St Patricks Day, red and pink for Valentine's Day, red and green for Christmas and so on.

After admiring the glistening Art Deco mosaics in the lobby, ride the elevator to the 86th or 102nd floors and get ready to drink in those astounding 360-degree views. The 86th-floor observatory is 1,050 feet (320 m) high, and if you pay a little extra you can visit the more intimate, enclosed observatory on the 102nd floor at 1,224 feet (373 m).

If you are looking to do a New York City tour and see A LOT in a short time, this tour is a VERY good value! Our local tour guide was Jim, a life-long New Yorker who was extremely knowledgeable and fun. I would highly suggest this tour for anyone who wants to go to the top of the Empire State Builiding, see the USS Intrepid and Space Shuttle Enterprise, have a NY Water Taxi tour of the Hudson and Statue of Liberty, get a walking tour of lower Manhattan and Battery Park, and finish with time at the 9/11 Memorial. Give yourself 6-7 hours and bring your walking shoes!

Doing what: NY SKYRIDE and Empire State Building Observatory

Really enjoyed this trip. The skyride was brilliant so glad we book it. It is like taking a helicopter ride over New York only much cheaper. Also we booked miss the queues, a must and worth every penny as you just walk in no waiting around. The Empire State Building is well worth a visit. It is great looking over the city. Brilliant day.

Very cool tour. Getting up the Empire State early and before the crowds is the big bonus here. We used the ferry ticket at the end of the tour to visit Brooklyn and then later, the Statue of Liberty before returning to pier 84. Tour guide was great too - very knowledgeable and helpful.

Practical Info

The Empire State Building is on Fifth Avenue at W 33rd and 34th Streets. The queues are legendary, so purchasing an express pass is a good idea if time is tight. The express elevator takes under a minute to soar to the 86th floor. The closest subway is 34th Street/Penn Station or Herald Square.
