Located at 460 Madison Avenue, St. Patrick’s Cathedral is the largest gothic-style Catholic Cathedral in the country, as well as the seat of Timothy Cardinal Dolan, the archbishop of New York. Completed in 1878, St. Patrick’s Cathedral welcomes more than five million visitors each year who come to take part in mass, light candles, attend choir and organ recitals, participate in public programs and view the art and design of the building. Before entering, take in the white marble exterior, pinnacles and 330-foot twin spires reaching toward the sky. Inside explore the many chapels of the church, each one named after a different saint. Additionally, the Rose Window is 26 feet in diameter and showcases a masterpiece of 20th-century century stained glass art. Note: If you’re interested in visiting the crypt where all the Archbisophs of New York are buried you’ll need to make an appointment.

For those hoping to take pictures, avoid visiting during mass times as photography is not allowed. Currently, a $175 million restoration is being planned for St. Patrick’s Cathedral and is set to be completed in about three years.

Free tours of St. Patrick’s Cathedral are offered. Call Roberta Shea at 212.355.2749 ext. 829 to learn about upcoming tours or schedule one of your own. To get to the St. Patrick’s Cathedral, take the B, D, F or V subway to the Rockefeller Center stop. Saint Patrick’s is open daily from 6:30am to 8:45pm.

Doing what: New York City Hop-on Hop-off Tour

I'm normally not in that kind of tourism, but it was the best way to see all New York for the few first day to know where I would like to go back and also use it as a nice transportation between attractions! A great deal to really recommend!

If you are looking to do a New York City tour and see A LOT in a short time, this tour is a VERY good value! Our local tour guide was Jim, a life-long New Yorker who was extremely knowledgeable and fun. I would highly suggest this tour for anyone who wants to go to the top of the Empire State Builiding, see the USS Intrepid and Space Shuttle Enterprise, have a NY Water Taxi tour of the Hudson and Statue of Liberty, get a walking tour of lower Manhattan and Battery Park, and finish with time at the 9/11 Memorial. Give yourself 6-7 hours and bring your walking shoes!

Loved it! This is one of the best ways to see a lot of sights and the Viator employees were so kind and helpful. I was on a one day trip and was surprised just how many sights I was able to see in such a short time. I highly suggest using this service and will use them again. They took the stress out of my visit when I did not know the area!
