Niagara Falls from New York

Niagara Falls is the most powerful falls in North America, and this country-straddling landmark is one of the top tourist destinations of the region. The falls themselves are truly breathtaking, and while most visitors feel that New York City is too far removed, that need not be the case.

Niagara Falls is located in what is known as the Finger Lake region of New York, and the surrounding countryside is lined with farms and apple orchards. A drive through this Arcadian landscape is a delight, and from New York, many 2-day bus tours offer highlights of the region, stopping in Watkins Glen Canyon and its rock-walled canyons before sojourning onward to Niagara.

Other summer tours take you into the mist of the falls on either the historic Maid of the Mist ferryboat, or by exhilarating, finger-biting jetboat.

Is a two-day journey too much time away from New York? For a truly unforgettable experience, you can also fly to the falls and get a bird's eye view of the horseshoe shaped falls, before plunging in behind the falls in a glass elevator, or feeling the mist on your face by way of brave ferryboat. Be sure to book early, however! The Niagara Falls from New York air trip routinely sells out.

6 days of go go go!. We were up every day at 6am for either to catch a jet plane, a bus transport or ready to do another tour. The days were long and we were forever in and out of aircrafts, buses and hotels BUT what an experience. The tour guide Alexi was brilliant and his aim was to see that we saw as much of NYC, Niagara Falls, Canada, Harrisburg and Lancaster, and Eashington DC that we could. And we did! The tour group was mostly people from Holland but they spoke English to us and made us feel part of the tour. There was 15 of them and us two Australians.
Niagara Falls was so spectacular and the added tours we went on enabled us to see both sides of the Falls - US and Canada. The US side is better as you are right at the edge of the falls. Toronto and the CN tower and Parliament Building worth seeing. The trip to Pennslyvannia and the Hamish county was very educational. Washington was just Washington - the Smithonian Museums were huge and too many to visit in the time we had but glad we saw what we could. The Arlington Cemetery and memorials to Lincoln, Martin King, the war veterans were something to see. A visit to George Washingtons Plantation at Mt Vernon was also a treat. All in all we had a wonderful time and this trip was great value for money. The hotels (Hilton and Sheraton) where we stayed were first class. A first class trip and great value - highly recommended.

Niagara Falls what a spectacular destination. This tour should not be missed although you need to be aware that it can be more than a 14hr day. We were picked up at 6.30am and dropped back at our hotel at 11pm! Our guide Eduardo was lovely and our lunch at the hotel afforded fantastic views of the falls. Maid of the Mist ride worth getting wet for! Up close the falls are one on natures wonders that should not be missed.
