The Hamptons, so-called in reference to Southampton and East Hampton, are about 75–100 miles (120-160 km) east of Manhattan and have a reputation for being quite an affluent area, as seen in the TV series Royal Pains and the film Something’s Gotta Give. Although it may cost millions of dollars to own property here, visitors often find the Hamptons to be a lovely short-term getaway from the city.
