The trip was everything we dreamed it would be. The coach driver was very knowledgeable. He gave a great tour on our way to Hobbiton and answered all questions we had. The tour guide from Hobbiton was great and the lunch was perfect. Thank you so much for a wonderful day
Damond was the best tour guide ever- he shared interesting stories, was considerate about stopping, and was such a nice guy. The Hobbiton was amazing, and something truly spectacular to see, plus the ice cream for purchase on site was amazing. Also, the free beer during the tour was so delicious! The Waitomo Caves were neat, but not as spectacular as I was expecting- other tours probably show more of the glow worms. I was still glad we made it a stop on our trip though, it was in a beautiful area.
Awesome trip! It's a long drive to the Waitomo Caves from Auckland, and sadly, no photography is allowed in the caves, even if you turned off your flash, but it is just so amazing to see! I was expecting to see only specks of light, but the glow worms really illuminate the otherwise pitch-black caves and it's almost magical!
Lunch at the Waitomo Caves wasn't fantastic though. Just a buffet with a small spread made up mostly of mediocre salads.
The Hobbiton Tour was awesome -- definitely one of my favorite spots of my NZ vacation. The Hobbiton guide was super friendly and shared so many interesting stories and tidbits, and the free beverage at the Green Dragon Inn was a nice way to end the tour.
This excursion was the highlight of my husband and my trip to New Zealand. We were on the Sea Princess and they didn't offer Hobbiton and Rotorua in the same excursion, as this was our first time I was worried about going with a company outside for an excursion but I had no need to worry. Grant from Zealander was very informative, courteous, punctual and helpful from start to finish. He had exceptional knowledge and nothing was too much for him. Could not praise him enough. He really made it a great tour for all aboard. We could only hope to have him again and would highly recommend this excursion to anyone. Grant and Zealander tours are a great combination. Thank you.
It was a fantastic day. My sons really enjoyed their time wandering through Hobbiton. We only wish they had a tour that arrived just as the place opens. We had a good time sampling the ale at the Green Dragon.

Wonderful tour! We had an excellent driver Wayne from the tour company from Auckland. He gave us plenty of history of the region on our way from Auckland to Hobbiton. The crowds had not arrived yet so we got to take plenty of pictures and view the setting and were not rushed through. Afterwards, the tour included a sample of ale and a lovely lunch. Would recommend..
The tour was wonderful. I enjoyed the duck boat and the glow worm caves. My wife thoroughly enjoyed Hobbiton, and the Tamaki village was a lot of fun. I definitely recommend this for anyone visiting New Zealand for the first time.
Absolutely awesome for LOTR or Hobbit fans! Having spent countless hours playing Lord of the Rings Online, seeing Hobbiton so well looked after was amazing. Guide was fun and informative. The group was moved along steadily, but not rushed at all.
A REALLY ENJOYABLE TRIP. THE DRIVER WAS REALLY FRIENDLY AND VERY KNOWLEDGABLE ABOUT THE ROUTE AND HOBBITON. THE GUIDE AT HOBBITON ITSELF WAS ALSO VERY WELCOMING AND KNEW HIS STUFF.
Had a great time. Everything was as described; Ben picked me up on time (actually a little early - he was waiting when I stepped outside), Wayne did a great job storytelling the whole way there and most of the way back. Hobbiton was of course wonderful. I posted a picture of myself in front of Bag End on facebook. My son responded "That man couldn't look more smug if Gandalf himself had invited him on an adventure". Apparently, I had a VERY good time. Thanks so much - definitely delivered above expectations!
Fantastic!!! The guide, Tony was knowledgeable, funny and very personable. It was an easy way to get out of the city and see some more of New Zealand. Hobbittion was great! I would highly recommend this tour!
If you are a fan of Hobbits, don't miss it. Got great pics.

I enjoyed this trip so much! Our tour guide Damian was fantastic. They catered to my vegan dietary requirements. The Caves and Hobbiton are two things which everyone need to experience when visiting New Zealand.
Wonderful tour from the moment we were greeted as we left the cruise ship until we were dropped off again. Informative, friendly bus driver and fantastic guides at Rotorua and Hobbiton. Our family of four highly recommend this tour and this company - a fantastic way to see two amazing sites in the one day and not feel rushed at either. Thank you to all involved!
Had an amazing time at Hobbiton. Our driver and tour guide were excellent. It was a brilliant day, very enjoyable.
Really great day tour if you wanted to fit in waitomo and Hobbiton!
This tour was the highlight of my two week trip to New Zealand. The bus rides were never boring, as the guide was extremely knowledgeable about the area and kept up a running commentary on the way there, and showed videos on the way back. Mount Sunday and the surrounding area were absolutely stunning, by far the most beautiful place I've ever visited. It's well worth visiting even if you aren't a fan of Lord of the Rings.
The tour was amazing and so was my guide Michael. We went to heaps of locations and he gave us lots of information regarding The Lord Of The Rings, and to go to weta workshop as well was amazing. To top it all off you get to go somewhere special at the end. It's after your main tour around Wellington and weta workshop that you go to an iconic place, but I'll let you figure it out what it is. So do the tour!
Thank you very much!
There were 3 main things I wanted to see in New Zealand and this tour covered them _ Waitomo Caves, Rotorua and Hobbiton. I hadn’t done a tour like this where bus loads of people kept splitting up and getting on new buses for different tours. Although my wife and I had 7 different buses it all went smoothly. A bit of time is lost waiting and changing buses but I am not sure if this could be done better.
We loved the tours of Waitomo Caves, Rotorua and Hobbiton. We also had a “duck” tour which went right into the lakes at Rotorua. The Maori village and hangi feast, spouting geysers at Te Puia, Kiwi birds at Rainbow Springs and even a sheep show at the Agrodome. The accommodation at the Millennium Hotel was very comfortable, although prepare yourself for the smell of sulphur.
I couldn’t imagine how I could have organised this myself in the time frame. I strongly recommend this tour to anybody visiting New Zealand.
Excellent tour guides on coach, glowworm caves and Hobbiton! Enjoyable tour!
My tour date was 03/02/15 i had Damien i think was his name as our tour guide, he was amazing. As i was solo on this trip and a bit of a drive it was nice that he talked all the way there and i found all the history and culture of New Zealand very interesting. First stop was the Glow worm caves, incredible! The worms were like stars, magical! Then onto Hobbiton as i am a big fan of the films i thoroughly enjoyed it. The guide was very informative the movie set is awesome! The buffet lunch included was delicious. You have to go! Well worth the money :-
Loved this trip. I was in NZ for three weeks and I took more photos at Hobbiton than the entire trip. Love this country!! Had a great day and an excellent driver. That bus had shonky gears and she handled it really well.
The tour was a great experience. David of Great Sight went beyond his call of duty! As much as he is knowledgeable of NZ he was also a very nice person; told us not to worry about our pram and attended to our stuff while me, my wife and toddler enjoyed Hobbiton.
Murray, driver, was nice and polite.
As a mega fan of Lord of the Rings books and movies, this was a dream come true. Our driver and guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and kept us well informed as the day progressed. A wonderful, exciting day! I would rate this tour a 5. Oh yeah, the lunch was tasty too.

This was an excellent trip. There were very few people, so lines were short and the bus driver could pay special attention to us. The bus driver was informative not only about New Zealand history, landscape, and agriculture, Hobbiton, and the glow worm caves, but also talked about some current events that an international visitor wouldn't know about. Hobbiton was wonderful, uncrowded, unrushed (having read other reviews, I worried about that). The glow worm caves were interesting and the food was okay, but I didn't expect better than that. Watch out for the birds if you eat there -- they are tenacious and fearless. Our bus driver was Allen.
