Ports of call in Canada and New England offer some of the best architecture, food and culture in North America. You’ll be charmed in port towns like Halifax and Victoria, and then wowed by big-name attractions in Montreal, Boston and New York.

Boston

Cruises to one of America’s most historic cities dock at the Black Falcon Cruise Terminal on the South Boston waterfront. English is the local language, and the currency is the US dollar. No matter what your interests – history, sports, architecture, culture – there are activities to fuel your fire. Walk the Freedom Trail to see historic sites, check out Fenway Park to see where the Red Sox play or take a shore excursion to visit surrounding towns like Cambridge.

Halifax

The Atlantic city of Halifax sits on the southern coast of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. Ships dock at the Seaport, where you can catch a Metro Transit bus or walk 10 minutes into downtown. Take a bike tour shore excursion to see the city’s sights and enjoy the fresh Canadian air, or check out historic sites like Citadel Hill and the old warehouses on the boardwalk. The language of Nova Scotia is English, although you may here French, as well. The currency is the Canadian dollar.

Montreal

Elegant Montreal is the largest city in Quebec and the second largest in Canada. Cruises dock at the Iberville Passenger Terminal, from where you can walk to the old town. The currency is the Canadian dollar; the official language of Quebec is French, but English – Canada’s other language – is often spoken as well. A UNESCO City of Design, Montreal is overflowing with gorgeous historical buildings and a Paris-like vibe. Take a walking tour shore excursion or buy a hop-on hop-off pass to explore on your own.

New York City

Ah, New York, New York. The US capital of fashion, finance, food, theater… just about everything, really, will draw you in with its bright lights and famous sights. Ships dock at the cruise terminal on the west side of Manhattan, between West 48th Street and West 52nd Street, just a few piers down from the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. This puts you in walking distance to Midtown attractions like Rockefeller Center and Times Square. The currency is the US dollar, and the language is English.

Quebec City

Quebec City, the capital of Quebec, is one of North America’s oldest cities, and the only city in US or Canada that has city walls (which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Old Quebec (Vieux-Québec) with its historical landmarks and European-style architecture, is the city’s main attraction. You can get there easily, whether your ship docks at Le Vieux Port (the Old Port) or Le Basse Ville (the Old City). The currency is the Canadian dollar, and the official language is French, although English is spoken by many locals, as well.

Vancouver

In laidback Vancouver, on the southern coast of mainland British Columbia, enjoying the Great Outdoors is the name of the game. Shore excursions include garden tours and day trips to Grouse Mountain and Whistler, but if you’re more ‘indoorsy,’ visit the Granville Island market or eat and drink your way around town, from seafood to Asian to locally brewed beer. Ships dock at one of two terminals – the convenient Canada Place and the more out-of-the-way Ballantyne Pier. The language is English, and the currency is the Canadian dollar.

Victoria

A little slice of Britain on a Pacific Northwest island, Victoria is the capital of British Columbia and offers shore excursions to suit any taste, from whale watching to a castle tour to the famous Butchart Gardens. Or, just walk around the charming downtown, having high tea and admiring the picturesque waterfront. Ships dock Ogden Point, about a 20-minute walk from downtown. The language is English, and the currency is the Canadian dollar.
