Once a tiny fishing village, Ocho Rios is now a lively tourist hub and a must visit long-weekend getaway. Here are some ideas on how to make the most of your stay in this charming place.
Day 1: History and Heritage
Immerse yourself in Ocho Rios’ rich history with the Heritage Beach Horse Ride Tour. Begin by traveling to the north coast of Jamaica where you will visit Seville Great House and Heritage Park. Learn about the Taino Indians as you browse a collection of artifacts. Soak in the scenery as you ride by castles, sugar factories and archeological excavations dating back 500 years.
Upon arrival at the beach you will be treated to some fine local produce before wading into the waves on horseback. The return journey will take you past deserted beaches and mangroves, the remains of an 18th century warehouse and an ancient waterwheel that once powered a sugar mill plantation.
Day 2: Musical Memories
Feel the Jamaican’s passion for music on the Zion Bus Tour as your driver-guide captivates you with stories about the legendary Bob Marley. Enjoy a traditional meal at the local Jerk Center before heading on to Nine Mile, the birth and final resting place of the reggae legend. The package also includes a scenic tour of rural St. Ann.
Day 3: Adrenaline, Anyone?
Start your day off with the Irie Adventure Tour. Afterward, relax as you make your way down the serene Martha Brae River on a bamboo raft. Your tour ends at the world famous Dunn's River Falls. Alternatively you may spend your last day in Ocho Rios interacting with some special sea creatures in the swim, hold and feed the sharks program or one of a kind dolphin encounter.
We had the most fantastic time at Dolphin Cove. It is must for everyone that visits Jamaica. We booked the Dolphin Swim with an upgrade to the Ultimate Swim, if you go to Dolphin Cove the Ultimate Swim cannot be beaten.
Our only gripe is we wish we had been told about all the other activities onsite. We could have spent the whole day there. Although the photos and DVD are expensive they are worth every penny.
AMAZING!! So much fun! Boat rides, snorkeling and swimming with stingray were also available. This was the best day of our trip.

Doing what: Martha Brae River Rafting and Dunn’s River Falls Tour from Ocho Rios
Great tour! We had a wonderful driver who drove us to all these places. ALong the way he explained things and history about Jamaica which I wasnt expecting. Our tour didnt include lunch but he brought us to a place he recommended and even carried out trays for us. He didnt eat with us, I wish I had asked him to. He was so polite. The rafting tour was a lot of fun, we had a guy who was very animated and funny. The only negative part was that I wasnt aware that the rafters obviously expect a tip but they also hand carve coconuts and want to sell them to you along the way. We werent prepared for that so we didnt have any money and he got a little upset about it. We still tipped him but he was clearly expecting to sell a coconut. You dont get wet on the raft which is nice and it was a relaxing beautful ride.
The Falls were absolutley stunning, I was not expecting them to be as big as they were. You absolutely need to bring water shoes for this part. I actually had to back out last minute because I was 8 weeks pregnant and wasnt expecting the falls to be as big and I was too scared off slipping. Even if you dont do it, it was still amazing to see this!
