How to Do Paris like a Local

Here's my tip on how to make the most of your trip to Paris - don't rush it! Do you ever get the feeling that sometimes you get somewhere and rush around visiting all the must-see sights, and don't get a chance to take a breath? Well, in Paris, I recommend maybe spend the morning visiting some of the sights, maybe take in a museum. But then make like a Parisean for the rest of the day, and spend a couple of hours lingering over a long lunch. In the afternoon, you can spend hours in a cafe just people-watching, Paris is that sort of city. Is there any big rush to tick off another tourist sight? After all, it'll probably still be there when you visit Paris the next time....

Excellent advice not just for Paris but for anywhere. Maybe I'm getting old but it's a vacation after all, no point over-scheduling yourself. Continue Reading »

Paris is all about food and wine! Visit the Saxe Breteuil Market at Avenue de Saxe. This open air market is framed by the magnificent Eiffel Tower. You will find mouth-watering high quality foods, including organic produce. Next walk to Rue Cler, great for specialty food and wine shops. Then walk to the Champs de Mars park and enjoy your bottle of wine and fresh foods from the market and Rue Cler while enjoying a view of the Eiffel Tower. Du vin, du pain et du boursin! Vive la France! Life does not get much better than this. Continue Reading »

Enjoy a picnic à la française on the banks of the river seine. First pick up a baguette, followed by cheese and wine. Then just find the stairs that lead to the river banks (usually near the base of one of the bridges). Sit on the steps or find one of the benches along the water to eat, drink and watch the world go by. Also popular in the evening. Continue Reading »
