Doing what: Penang Island Discovery Morning Tour

This tour gave us an amazing feel for the entire island of Penang. The drive was beautiful and we enjoyed experiencing the various aspects of the island. All of the stops were interesting, but we definitely felt that they were a bit too "commercial" as the information parts were not as extensive as we would have liked and the "shopping time" allotted was often much longer.

The Penang Island Morning Tour was terrific. We'd never been to Penang before and the tour was an excellent introduction. The bas was clean and comfortable and well driven. Our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and gave us great insight into Penang and Malay history, culture and landmarks, flora and fauna. I would highly recommend this tour for those arriving in Penang wanting to know more about this beautiful island.

Great tour guide! Knowledgable about Malaysia. No problem modifying tour schedule for us.

Our driver arrived on time and was pleasant, courteous and careful; the car was clean and comfortable. Particularly enjoyed Kek Lok Si. Since our driver was Buddhist he was able to explain everything which really enhanced our enjoyment of the visit. Only negative was that the local company insisted we hand over our entrance tickets. My daughter wanted to keep hers as a souvenir and I had to email the company to confirm that we had both visited the temple so that our driver would not have to pay some 30 RM. I thought this was petty. But, other than that, a very enjoyable afternoon.

While we enjoyed this tour the itinerary was less comprehensive than advertised. Our visit to the temple was fairly short and we did not see the pool of longevity with the turtles and the visit to the Botanic gardens simply did not take place. When we asked the guide about this he said the gardens were only visited when the hill railway was closed for maintenance.

My first time using aviator. It was a hassle to start. It was good I had a hotel staff call for confirmation. Our booking was unheard of, so she has to fax our prepaid ticket/voucher. Had to wait for hours to get a confirmation for our next day tour. Was really disappointing considering it was prepaid weeks earlier. We could have wasted our day waiting for nothing without confirming first. It should have been hassle free.

Our voucher states a pick up time of 9:30 but we were picked up at 8. It was just a mess to start.

However, the tour was great. Our tour guide was a walking creature of knowledge. Bus was clean.

Our tour was confirmed for hotel pick up @ 2PM but no one turned up !!!! After some upsetting, stressful time and many phone calls we were finally sent a (private) bus and driver/guide @ 4PM. :o) There were 2 highlights listed on the tour that we did not get to see at all : #1-Stroll through the beautiful Penang Botanical Gardens with the free roaming monkeys. #2- See hundreds of tortoises at the "Pond of Longevity"
Apart from all that, Penang Hill and Kek Lok Si were beautiful. Wish we had more time there instead of rushing through.

We booked this tour on a weekend day thinking we could visit the Butterfly Farm instead of the jewelry factory as per tour description on the web page. Were a bit disappointed when informed that the tour no longer visits the Butterfly Farm even on weekends.Apart from that, very pleasant tour overall : pick up on time, very friendly and knowledgeable and accommodating tour guide and driver, comfortable bus, great group etc... The tour tends to be on the "commercial" side though.

Very good tour. Guide excellent and informative. The temple is definitely worth seeing - it's beautiful and huge (although still incomplete) - and the cable car is fun and offers good views of Penang. Like all tours, it seemed a little rushed, but this is because you're seeing so much in such a short time period. Also, the air-conditioned van was a god-send haha!

An enjoyable tour, made even better by David, the tour guide. The snake temple suprised me, there were far less snakes than when I last visited in 1965!! It was a very pleasant morning's tour. The Batik factory was an eye opener, for the hard work involved in making the designs. It was interesting to see the Malay village, when one sees all the development with high rise accomodation on the Island now.

The journey up the hill is much more comfortable these days, though obviously crowded due to the attraction of the views from the summit. The Kek Lok Si Buddhist Temple is still an incomplete structure after all these years. You need your "walking feet" for this walk about. Again I was lucky to have david as the tour guide - such an incredible amount of information.

Boat ride there was relatively long and certainly not on a catamaran or luxurious boat (on a ferry). Once arriving there, the coral reef is split into two sides - those who come from Penang and those from Langkawi. The reef itself is spectacular and the Snorkelling is well worth the one an a half hours to the reef. Water extremely salty, but beautiful and clear and the amount of fish and coral is incredible. Swimming with the sharks was great. Staff were relatively helpful and buffet lunch was great. Would do this trip again if i was to return to Penang.
