Very good trip and thoroughly enjoyed it. I picked up the ferry from Perth City - do be warned its a long trip to Rottnest from there, we were on the boat at 8.30 and it was gone 11 by the time we got to Rottnest, so do be prepared to spend a long time travelling if you pick the boat up from the city. The alternative is to get the boat at Fremantle. Lovely cycle round the island, although my 70 year old mother found the hills hard! The beaches were beautiful and the quokkas were seriously cute. A really good day out.
Rottnest Island with the crystal clear water and Eco tour Wow whales and the most perfect weather. Lunch at Rottnest Lodge very ordinary would be better if you could go to the hotel and choose what you would like to eat rather than left over stewed food from the Bain Marie.
Excellent cruise to and from Rottnest Island. The Wildlife Cruise at Rottnest was both exciting and great fun - the Skipper was exceptional. This was the highlight of the day. The lunch at the Lodge was terrible. Poor quality food and not properly cook. It was a disgraceful lunch and everyone who took this option on the day complained. The whole trip was very good value but the lunch partially ruined what was a very good day adventure.
Perfect spot for a rest- plenty of local wild life- good lunch at the hotel- excelent commentry on the ship going down the Swan. Did not go on the Wildlife cruise as the sea was too rough for a couple of "oldies". A good day looking at the local area and museum's.
Rottnest Island is amazing! Due to high tides, we bused from central Perth to Freemantle where we boarded the express boat. The boat ride was uneventful and comfortable. Bicycles were ready on the pier and I quickly embarked on a lovely tour of the island. I believe it's about 18km around and is generally fairly flat. I made a point of stopping at every lookout and point of interest. The day was beautiful, the water was crystal clear and every beach was amazing. The entire ride took approximately3 hours at a very leisurely pace.
picked up way too early. left at the wharf for over an hour in the cold. then told we were on a bus not a boat to freemantle even though everyone expected the boat trip. saw nothing on the way down. got to rottnest. waited ages for a bike. then waited ages for snorkelling gear only to be told in the end we should go to the local shop and get it from there as they weren't using their stuff much. treated like cattle not people. went to the store and had to put money in for snorkelling gear that was already paid for!! late start and then expected back onto the boat at the scheduled time only to be left for ages waiting to leave. got back to freemantle and left the tour fully disgusted. will never book through viator again.
It was a great day out for kids and to my surprise I enjoyed it too. The Jet boat wildlife tour was excellent. Our guide on the boat took the trouble to tell us alot about the island and the wildlife and get us as close to the animals as possible without being intrusive. I think a day is not enough to do the island justice but it was a great introduction to the island. The snorkelling off the Basin was not up to expectation only because the water was a bit murky that day. We are Asians and still thoroughly enjoyed the version of "curry " at the lodge. The bikes and snorkelling gear were in excellent condition.
Going through your site we got a top deal ,the 90 min tour around the island was great fun ,fur seals. Lunch at the lodge was lovely, service on the boat was great. Ken and Lisa Gerrard had a top day, thank you we will use this site again and recommend it to our family and friends .
The wildlife cruise was great however I think it should be called "Wild Ride" wildlife cruise. We paid for the meal at Rottnest Lodge- definitely not recommened, worst meal have had in many many years!
We loved the day and would highly recommend giving this a top priority when in Perth
Great day, beautiful location and amazing weather. Loved our wildlife cruise but wasn't quite as "wild" as was suggested. Guide and skipper were good. Lunch was ok but would have preferred to eat down near the beach and enjoy the views. Great way to see Rottnest in a day. Good value for money.
Gee it's pretty ordinary! And I paid a reduced rate with one of Viator's special deals. I am so embarrassed as an Australian when this sort of venue is put up as something special to overseas visitors. It's not the fault of the operator (except the price they charge). It's the venue .So it's on an island, which really is the same terrain above and below water as the mainland ( not exactly a tropical fish wonderland either). So what do you get there that's so special? You get very expensive prices for food, and drinks and alcohol (at the hotel). Yes it has to be transported there but it is REALLY expensive - and accomm. is even more outrageously priced. If you go, make it for one day and take your own food and refreshments!
a MOST WONDERFUL adventure :)......
even if we got heaps more spray on us in the open top deck during the trip back to Perth, than we did on that exhilarating bucket-list trip circumnavigating Rottnest :)
The trip over to Rotternest Island was great 'great weather'. The 'boot scooting' in the fast boat around the Island was something to remember. The food was absolutely salubrious. The museum and all the other sights were excellent. Your part in the enjoyment was without question well organised.
Great little Island, but if we did it again I'd hire a bicycle instead of taking the bus tour.
