Located along the Delaware River side of Philadelphia, Penn's Landing is a waterfront area known for its public events and historic boats. The site gained its spot in American history when it served as the landing spot for William Penn, founder of the Pennsylvania colony, in 1682.
Today the area serves as the site several summertime events in the city. The Great Plaza, a concrete labyrinth located along the Delaware River, is the main public area and is home to most of the shops and restaurants. Festival Pier is a popular venue for outdoor concerts during the summer months.
For those hoping to get more of a taste of Philadelphia's history, you can check out the numerous historic ships moored at Penn's Landing. Among those worth checking out are a World War II-era submarine, a Spanish-American War-era cruiser, and a floating restaurant.

Doing what: Philadelphia Hop-On Hop-Off City Tour
The weather in Philadelphia was terrible the day of my tour, so I hopped on and stayed on, but I feel the tour was well worth the $26 i paid. Since there were so few people on the tour that day, and there were long stretches where I was the only person on board, I had almost a " private tour". My tour guide was very knowledgable and quite humorous and I learned a lot about Philadelphia without ever getting off of the bus. He also made sure I got a shuttle back to the Marriott - much appreciated as the weather was so bad. I must also mention the kind lady who assisted me in getting on the tour bus at the Marriott stop. She offered me shelter in the stationary bus, and gave me a lot of information and pointers about Philadelphia. Her enthusiasm about Philadelphia and the tour got the trip off to a great start. You are lucky to have such wonderful staff!
The tour covered a LOT of ground, and I think when I have the chance to return to Philadelphia I will book the 2 day tour as the bus stops at 3 museums and the penitentury, which would take a big chuck of time to tour.

Doing what: Philadelphia Old City MP3 Audio Walking Tour
This was wonderful for a first time trip. the walking tour allowed me to go at my own pace and to see a litle more of the city. I also really liked the historical info given in the tours. Most importantly the directions on how to get to the next sight were very user friendly. I would definatley recommend this product and use it again. Thanks Walking Tour!
