Thailand's national sport, Muay Thai takes place in a boxing ring between two combatants. Knees and elbows are allowed to be used, in addition to hands and feet. It's a fascinating and sometimes brutal sport, demanding utmost fitness and strength among participants.
Muay Thai events take place in various venues around Phuket, with Patong Boxing Stadium playing host to the most popular events. As well as spectacular fights, events are usually punctuated by wild Thai music (following the action and rhythm of the fights themselves), and passionate supporters placing bets on competitors.
