Pisa tours, sightseeing, things to do

Pisa

Trip Planning & Itineraries

Once, if briefly, a maritime power to rival Genoa and Venice, Pisa now draws its fame from an architectural project gone terribly wrong: its Leaning Tower. But the city offers quite a deal more.

Indeed, the tower is only one element of the trio of Romanesque beauties around the green carpet of the Campo dei Miracoli - along with Piazza San Marco in Venice, one of Italy's most memorable sights.

The best time to visit Pisa

The Pisans can justly claim that the Campo dei Miracoli is one of the most beautiful sights in the world. On any day the piazza is teeming with people - students studying or at play, tourists having their photos taken, and local workers enjoying a picnic on the lawn.

Visit the tower at dusk or dawn when there are no crowds or cheesy souvenir stands and you can marvel (and take pictures) in peace.
