This is a huge rave not only for the Dolphin Island Tour, but also for Viator.com itself! I called with a few questions and concerns. The viator representative I spoke to didn't know the answer, but three way called Punta Cana to find out the information for me before booking. They were nothing but pleasant and everything was exactly as it should've been.
As for the Dolphin Island Tour, it was fantastic. You can tell all the trainers are passionate about what they do and treat the dolphins with the utmost respect and care which was a huge concern of mine. The bus ride was long though. Not gonna lie, the bus ride was about an hour and a half since we stopped at several different resorts to pick up guests. It was okay though since the shuttle was free, I couldn't complain too much. Everything was very clean and new and safe. You get to spend about 1/2 hour in the water with the dolphins in total though. We had about 15 minutes of swimming with the sharks and sting rays and then went over to start our dolphin tour. So "half-day" is mostly referring to the bus ride and waiting around on the beach, which is fine, since they had drinks and snacks available. Sodas were free, alcohol was extra- I think $2 for a bottle.
The tour was awesome. It made the trip for us. Just make sure you have all the info with you, and have your hotel call to confirm a few days before. Our resort hadn't used Viator much, and at first the tour operator didn't accept our voucher. Luckily, the hotel staff called and worked it out, but we missed our tour and had to go the following day, which was OK because we had booked the trip several days before we had to leave, so we had some leeway. Otherwise, this was our favorite excursion by far!
We had a great time the trip was very interesting and educating it opens your eyes to alot of things. Our guide and driver were very friendly and alot of fun.
It was nice to be able to book this before we left for the trip instead of having to settle for what the hotel offered.
Other than we were booked for a Tuesday and didn't take the trip until Thursday, the experience was very worthwhile. We only found out about the change when we called to confirm our pickup time. The guide and driver were excellent. The information was very interesting and well presented. I would recommend this trip.
The country Adventure Safari was a very interesting experience. We got to see part of the Dominican Republic that one normally does ot see while at a beautiful All-inclusive resort. I am not sure that what we actually saw was typical Dominican Republic life, but it was interesting none-the-less. I think it would be nice if the tour guide had a microphone and speaker so everyone in the truck could hear the narration. with today's technology, that would not be too hard to accomplish. The tour got long toward the end and almost everyone was happy to get back to the hotel. In any case, it was worthwhile and fun. Try it.
This was a decent trip but not a five star adventure. We started the trip with a stop at a souvenir stand, followed by a trip to a small village where we were encouraged to buy gifts for the school children. After we toured the school and heard the tale of the desperate poverty of the teacher (he makes about 3x what my GF makes in Russia as a teacher) we toured a marijuana/cocoa farm and heard the same tale of poverty as I watched a $20 bill change hands between the truck driver and the farmer (I saw that 4 times for each truck - $80 in one hour is not poverty). The authentic lunch was beans and rice with some overcooked chicken.
There was "horse back riding" but the horse was too tired to do anything but plod along and I felt sorry for them as I could see that they needed medical attention...
The high point was visiting the beach - it is nicer than the one I was paying to visit at the resort. White sand that felt like silk under my feet, almost no seaweed, and crystal blue water.
Johnny BeGood and Miguel were great. If I did another tour I would ask for them. Maybe they do ziplining? ;)
Unfortunately we did not go on our trip to Saona Island. Our daughter was quite sick and we had to cancel at the last minute. Sure wish I could get some sort of refund. Thanks so much, The Svoboda family
Absolutely LOVE it! Best excursion I ever been on. Staff is wonderful, lots of fun and sun. I recommend this cruise for adults. Just remember to bring a set of dry clothes, your wet the whole time getting back to the hotel which is about an hour drive.
This was a fun excursion, despite getting off to a bad start when the scheduled pick-up at our resort didn't happen. It took about an hour to get that straightened out and a separate boat had to take us out to join the cruise. Nevertheless, the crew and staff were great and we had a very good time.
Awesome experience riding in a the jeep. This is an opportunity for you to learn about culture and experience local flavour. This adventure allows you to visit a school, a church, a family house and a ranch. Well worth the trip.
