Doing what: Ancient Ostia Half-Day Trip from Rome

The bus was nice enough for this tour but it took off late from the start time. The tour had many different languages on the tour so it seemed that you got a lot less commentary because the guide was always translating into other languages. For not having much content, not having much time to explore Ostia ( the bus took about an hour each way to get there, so you are only actually in the town for about a hour hour an half max), and not having the best guide, I only give this tour 2 stars.

Doing what: Ancient Ostia Small Group Day Trip from Rome

This trip was truly amazing and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. Our guide Vivianna was superb, her passion for history rubbed off on everyone including my 8 year old son. It was so nice to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city and spend the day here. You really are missing out on something special if you don't visit Ostia. A massive 'thank you' to Vivianna x

Doing what: Ancient Ostia Small Group Day Trip from Rome

This tour of Ostia, with Massimo, was fantastic. We had a small group and an extremely informative leader whose passion and knowledge of Ostia brought history to life. Travelling to and from Ostia by train was much better than being in a coach, quick and comfortable. Massimo ensured that the pace we moved through the site allowed sufficient time for explanations, photo taking and asking questions. A great day and one I would highly recommend.

Doing what: Ancient Ostia Half-Day Trip from Rome

Ancient Ostia is a must see it provides another view than Pompeii to ancient cities. The Tour Guide had expert knowledge of Ostia's and Roman history. She answered all questions and made the tour fun and informative, The half day tour worked well as for duration with enough walking for many people. I will take the tour again on next trip to Rome

Doing what: Ancient Ostia Small Group Day Trip from Rome

It is indeed "a better Pompeii" - less crowded, better preserved and closer to Rome. We were staying in Rome and made both trips, to Ostia and Pompeii. While Pompeii was more expensive it did not inlude entrance tickets or tour guide and it took around 3 hours to get to Pompeii. Ostia was only a short train ride away. The tour guide picked us up from outside a cafe. He was very friendly and knowledgeable and spoke perfect English. The group was small 6 people so we all could ask questions. Great day out, and I still remember all the facinating stories of what the life was like in Ostia centuries BC!

Doing what: Ancient Ostia Small Group Day Trip from Rome

Our Guide was very knowledgeable and very well spoken. She made sure that we all had time to see everything. This was the best thing we did in Rome. Ostia Antica was out of the way and not in the hustle and bustle of Rome. We had a great day of walking and finding out about ancient Rome. This tour is highly recommended for anyone who visits Rome. We will definitely tell our friends and family about this tour!

Doing what: Ancient Ostia Small Group Day Trip from Rome

We were the only two on the tour the day that we went, in late April. Luckily the weather held out, and we had a terrific time. Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about the ruins at Ostia. I would definitely recommend this trip over going to Pompeii because it is closer to Roma.

Doing what: Ancient Ostia Small Group Day Trip from Rome

Our guide was fabulous! She outdid herself in showing us the secrets of ancient Ostia. She was exceptionally knowledgeable and had a great personality and was very patient and helpful too! After our walking tour, she made sure everyone knew how to get where they needed to go. I would recommend this tour to anyone who doesn't want to go all the way to Pompeii...it didn't have the crowds of people and was more 'hands on' than Pompeii. Thanks for a wonderful tour!

Doing what: Ancient Ostia Small Group Day Trip from Rome

We were a very small group and it was a rainy day. Yet the enthusiasm of our guide was very cheering. She took very good care of us and had a lot of knowledge. Not even the rain, which was pouring down in the end, dampened her spirits. Ostia is an impressive and vast area of ruins...one still gets a very good impression of the way the town must have once flourished. The company of our guide definitely enhanced the experience.

Doing what: Ancient Ostia Small Group Day Trip from Rome

We had a very small group, four, and the tour still went without there even being a question about it. The tour left our meeting place on time and we returned on time. We had a wonderful guide who brought Ostia to life for us. She was knowledgeable and personable. We had a lot of fun exploring the ruins with her. Mid-tour we took a short break and were given time to shop in the bookstore and to buy refreshments. Then we visited the on-site museum with our guide before continuing our walk among the ruins. Our guide answered our questions and carried a reference guide she used if we asked something she didn't know off the top of her head. We asked a lot of questions and were glad to get good answers. She gave us a wonderful tour of Ostia Antica, and we were given our train tickets and the option of staying and exploring on our own, something no one in our group did. This was the very best of the tours we took. It was well worth having a guide in order to use our time there to the fullest. This is a walking tour, so wear good shoes and be prepared for some walking. Even after going to Pompeii and Herculaneum like we did, we felt it was well worth going to Ostia Antica.

Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. She was one of the best guides we had during our trip, and we took a lot of tours. If you're into ruins, go to Ostia, it is absolutely worth it.

Doing what: Ancient Ostia Half-Day Trip from Rome

We had a great time. The guide was very informative during the ride to Ostia, pointing out various points of interest along the way. While at the site, he hit the most interesting areas with explanations of what the area was like during Roman times and what the various buildings were used for. A great trip with a very friendly guide.
