The Colosseum in Rome is one of the world's best known sites from antiquity (for something built in 80 AD, the Colosseum is holding up very well). It was here that the Roman emperors liked to watch gladiators stage to-the-death battles as well as ...

Our walking tour covered so many sites and so much history! Our guide was very knowledgeable and did a good job communicating the high points. She brought a picture book that was very helpful in recreating the grandeur of the Forum for us. We covered a lot of ground, so good shoes are a must! This tour is more of an overview of top sites in ancient Rome, which was exactly what we wanted for the short time we had in Rome. If you want to get an in-depth look at the Colosseum, for instance, this would not be the tour for you.

Our guide and the whole experience of seeing Ancient Rome was the best. This tour is the only way to see this part of Rome. The guide was extremely knowledgeable, spoke with enthusiasm and great depth of feeling about her city. Again, seeing the lines for general entrance to the Colosseum, this is the ONLY way to do it.

Our tour guide Emma was amazing. She had a vast knowledge of the of the history of Rome and the Colosseum which she passionately shared.
This tour gave us access to off limit areas which we had the opportunity to stand in the arena, visit the underground area where the wild beasts were kept and also climb to the giddy heights of the 3rd tier which gave us the most incredible views.
The tour through the Palatine hills enabled me to really take on board the incredible history of this amazing city.
This will be an experience that will stay with me forever.
Thank you

This was an excellent tour in a fascinating historical facility. Well worth the money given the quality of our guides and the access to the restricted areas. The initial view of the interior of the Colosseum from ground level is truly a "Wow" moment and the rest of the tour was just as good. This tour was the highlight of our day in Rome!

Fantastic!! i would give this tour 6 stars if i could. The colosseum was breathtaking and our guide was wonderful. She really knew her history. This tour got us into so many areas that we wouldnt have access to otherwise such as the underground area where the animals were kept, we were on the reconstructed stage that the gladiators fought on and the roof. None of the areas were accessible if we didnt have a tour. Gave us a better experience then we would have had if we went through alone.

This was the most fun tour we took in Rome. It was lightly raining and we still had a blast. We got to see so much more of the area surrounding the Colosseum because we could get around faster. Great views and great history.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Having seen the colosseum etc previously by myself without doing a tour I would definetly recommend any one to do a tour- I got ten times more out this experience than I did previously.

Our guide Nicolo was fantastic, so knowledgable- he knew the answer to every question we asked him. He also had us laughing throughout too- all in all, ten out of ten- brilliant tour, brillant guide.

I cannot rate this tour more highly. We were met promptly and introduced to our guide Mauricio, after introductions the tour began promptly and what a tour. Firstly our guide was fantastic extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The tour takes you to the parts of the colosseum that most tours don't get to see, being able to walk on the same surface as the gladiators had done and to see the view from their perspective was just magical. The tour delivers exactly what it promises you will not be disappointed. Be prepared to walk and climb steps, comfy shoes a must, the part of the tour in the Roman Forum is also quite hilly but well worth it. This tour is not cheap but it delivers on every level and is worth every penny.

Our walking tour was fantastic. Getting access to additional places in the Colosseum was a treat, but, even without that, the real value came in getting to walk around with a live guide educating you about the things you were looking at. Both guides we experienced were friendly and always ready to help us snap a picture wherever we were. Great tour.

Excellent tour. Sabrina was a great tour guide. It was fantastic to be able to stand on the Colosseum floor, go underground and also visit the very top. Lovely views from above. We joined another group led by Maxim, I believe. I can't quite remember his name. But he was very informative. My husband and I really enjoyed this tour.

Once again Dark Rome Tours and Walks provides a great experience. Our guide was at our meeting spot just above the Metro stop looking across at the Colosseum. Again our guide was top of the line and again using the radio system and individual headphones so we could each individually hear our guide was clutch! With a brief overview of the exterior of the Colosseum, we were given the keys to the basements. Take the time and go see the Underground Chambers! Even though the shows must have been pretty grusome, seeing how they "changed the stage" with trap doors, pulleys, and ramps must have been amazing. Changing a stage on Broadway has nothing on Ancient Rome. From the underground chambers we worked our way up to the floor and other seating levels until we finally made it up as far as is allowed. The view is extremly picturesque as evidenced from the number of photos I took. From the Colosseum, we went to the Roman Forum. I have often wondered about a funny thing happening on the way to the Forum and with centuries of earth moved away to show even a glimpse of it former glory it makes me laugh at how far we think we have come in building our cities. Again our guide kept all of us engaged in every aspect of how the Forum was and in its current state. As we finally concluded our tour at the Nero Circus the skys opened up with a huge rain storm. Without missing a beat, our guide had a local vendor negotiated down to 3 euros for umbrellas and it was easy sailing from there. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who has a short amout of time to have an overview of Ancient Rome. I am looking forward to seeing it again and will definately use this same tour then go more indepth on a nice sunny day.

Couldn't rate this trip highly enough. Suzanna our guide was so enthusiastic about Rome and it's history it couldn't help but rub off on you. So worth the money to beat the crowds and have a small group. Lots of walking and quite a few stairs to climb in the Colosseum so be prepared. Stunning views of the Forum from the top tier and Suzanna gave us plenty time for snaps; she also offered to take photos of people which was very kind of her. I was most impressed with how comprehensive the tour of Ancient Rome and the Forum was, an unexpected bonus. This was the second tour I have booked with Viator and would definitely recommend them. The booking system is straight forward and the instructions given, particularly directions to the meeting places, are very comprehensive. They even give you an email reminder to print off your tickets before you travel. A very happy customer who would use them again.

This was one of my favorite tour groups we participated in!! Our tour guide was Sara and she was fantastic and very knowledgable. She really brought to life the ancient era of the Colosseum, the Forum and Palantine Hill. I have nothing but rave reviews of this tour, it was well worth every penny spent! It was also very cool to be able to view the Colosseum from our own private viewing spot (and get away from the big crowds) and then to be able to visit the underground chambers, WOW, just absolutely awesome!

A great tour. Good guide, started with a light meal and a chance to meet other tourists. Very interesting walk through some of the streets and attractions of Rome. An interesting drive by coach to the Vatican and a high vantage point with a good view of the lights of Rome, concluding at the Colosseum.
