This tour was amazing, fun, informative and unique! The meeting place was easy to find and the guide was there and ready when we arrived at the meeting location across from the Colosseum. The wireless transmitters we were given to be able to hear the tour guide were great and made it so much easier when in crowds to hear and follow along with the tour. Passing the long lines was great and the areas of the Colosseum we were able to go to was amazing! Our guide was knowledgeable in so many facts about Rome, the Colosseum and the culture in general. He also gave us tips on the local scene, things to be cautious about during our stay in Rome and was quite funny! Being able to go down into the chambers down below and hear about the stories relating to the times of Colosseum, being on the arena and hiking to the top upper tier was a fantastic experience! The added bonus of being able to pass the long lines at the Roman Forum and hearing stories and history about that space as well was the icing on the cake! We would highly recommend this tour to anyone!
this is the only way you should tour the colosseum. we saw more than the general public are allowed with very experienced guides
we took this tour in the middle of October. our guide was very informative and gave us a lot of information.
the tour went through the forum as well. but the highlight for us was the underground chambers. to be able to see that was just fantastic. and then all the way up which gave a beautiful view of the colosseum and of rome!
This was a great tour to take, especially for my first time visiting Rome as we saw a ton of stuff in just one afternoon. Mariella was our tour guide for the morning portion (Colosseum, Roman Forum, etc.) and true to previous reviews, she was amazing! She gave us so much information and history, her enthusiasm for the topics was contagious. In the afternoon, we were shown around many of the piazzas by Marina. She was a wonderful tour guide as well, she kept us laughing and also provided a lot of historical information as well. I would definitely recommend this tour, particularly for those visiting Rome for the first time.
We would have missed so much had we just walked through the colosseum and ruins on our own. This tour is a perfect example of travel as an educational experience. The guide had a wonderful interesting and entertaining manner of presentation.
An incredible experience, and very knowledgeable guide. The tour was well organised, and it was fantastic to jump to the head of a very very long queue to enter the colosseum. The experience of seeing the underground areas of the colosseum, and the tour of the area high above, all only accessible through locked gates, provided a unique insight into the life and workings of the colosseum in its heyday. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting a behind the scenes tour.
Consider yourself lucky if you are able to have Francesca as your tour guide for this tour! She is so passionate and descriptive about the history of Rome that you can easily imagine yourself walking amongst the Emperor and gladiators of that time! My daughter and I, along with our group, were able to walk on the arena floor of the Colosseum and we were fortunate enough to walk below for a spectacular view of the Colosseum. The tour was about 3 hours long but with Francesca's enthusiasm, time seemed to fly by and unfortunately, the tour ended. We both highly recommend this tour for all ages!
My husband's favorite tour! We had visited the Colosseum before on our own, but this took it to a whole new level. Learning the complete history of the Colosseum was simply fascinating. Going down into the underground chambers and "reliving" history was a great experience. Our guides were historians and new everything there is to know about the Colosseum and ruins. The time flew by and we wanted more!
Our guide, David, was amazing and had so many facts for us. It was a great tour and this was our third time at the colosseum and we still have more to learn. The underground tour was a trip back in time and I'm so glad we had the chance to do it. It is a tour I would not want to miss and we were able to experience history that we have only read about or heard tales from centuries ago.
The tour of the colosseum was fascinating. Having the opportunity to view the lower levels and upper tier was amazing.
The tour was excellent. Our tour guide, Gabriel, was brilliant. He was incredibly knowledgeable and able to really bring ancient Rome to life.
Highlights of the tour were being able to go onto the arena in the middle of the Colosseum and the views from the upper tier, which were amazing.
It was well worth doing this small group tour, not just for the access to the additional areas in the Colosseum, but also for the greater insight we gained. We would highly recommend this tour.
Our tour guide was fantastic! She was knowledgeable and this tour was our favorite of our trip to Italy. You’re treated to stunning views, interesting history, and an almost-private tour of the Colosseum, which is gorgeous at night, and not nearly as hot and crowded as the day version. This was an excellent tour!
Doing what: Colosseum and Ancient Rome Tour by Night
Really liked our guide. The extra price to pay was worth it for the additional areas (Colosseum floor, basement and roof top areas). Just a word of warning -- it is not really as small a group as advertised. Before the tour, they increased the size of the group so that it was 2-3 people over their advertised limit, plus you are put with another group during the portions of the tour when you are viewing the Colosseum floor, basement and roof top areas so that portion of the tour is well over twice the advertised limit. The groups split again when we went to the Roman Forum. Our guide was great -- friendly and knowledgeable.
This tour was excellent! We had a fantastic guide - Sara - with lots of knowledge, great English and a very friendly personality. We really appreciated being able to avoid very long line-ups. And we were pleased to be able to access and experience areas of the Colosseum that were not open to the public. Touring through the grounds of ancient Rome and hearing many interesting stories and details about life in this area was interesting and educational. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone heading to Rome!
This was one of the highlights of our 22 day tour of Italy! Our professional, intelligent and personable guide, Sev, was also a practicing professor and archeologist, so his commentary was akin to taking a graduate level college course on site!! We marvelled at the advanced workings underneath the Colosseum created centuries ago to entertain and thrill the Roman citizens, and the views of both the Colosseum and Rome from the top tier were extaordinary. Then Sev took us on a walking tour of ancient Rome, the Forum and Palatine Hill, all the while regaling us with history, archeological techniques and stories of Rome in the days of the Emperors - WOW!! The frosting on the cake of our wonderfukl Italia vacation - we would do it again in a heartbeat (IF we got Sev as our guide)!!!!!!!
