Great tour! Especially loved the catacombs with all the bones decorated in art-form! Too bad we couldn't take any pictures of it :(

A totally different Rome tour!
Was nice to get out of the heat and into the cool of the air conditioned coach, and then underground!
The only thing that spoilt this tour was that you can't really take photos anywhere because they are all sacred places.
We visited 3 places on the tour, first the catacombs(lots of corridors and empty holes in the walls where the bodies had once been) Then st Clements church, which is a really interesting church, made up of lots of layers! (some of them underground!)
Last but not least we visited the capuchin crypt. (the info on here says you get a private viewing but we didint, also we werent there for very long as there's not really that much to see). Definitely not a place to visit if you are squeamish about bones! Very interesting if not a little creepy! We hadnt heard of it before or looked it up so had no idea what to expect. I'll say no more incase you want to keep it as a surprise!
We did 3 dark Rome tours in total and were lucky to have great tour guides on each one. For this tour we had the lovely Luciana and Shannon.

Didn't realize we would be taking a bus out of town which could have been indicated on the description. The church tour and first underground catacombs were interesting, but did not compare with the fascination of the last stop which was featured in the tour photo. We were almost too late. We would have missed the best part of the tour if they had closed before we got there. So please make sure there's plenty of time to include it at the end.

Outstanding tour and guide. Guide was well informed and catacombs were amazing.

Doing what: Catacombs and Roman Countryside Half-Day Walking Tour
The catacombs of St. Callixtus was an amazing experience. The guide, (a priest), was enlightening, informative and very thorough. We enjoyed his guided tour tremendously!! We also enjoyed Rosa's (our tour guide through out the day) detailed historical explanations about the Appian Way, and the Roman Viaducts. It was disappointing that we did not get close enough to take decent pictures of the Viaducts (similar to other pictures posted on this site).
Overall, it was a very interesting and relaxing day.

Doing what: Skip the Line: Crypts and Roman Catacombs Small Group Walking Tour
This tour was not the best tour we did. We were interested in seeing the catacombs but actually they really weren't all that great. Just a bunch of holes in the walls in a one way system of dark alleyways. Don't be fooled into thinking there are any bones down there as there are none. The only bones you see are at the end of the tour when you visit the capuchin crypts where monks have died and have been placed on display as they died. Weird but quite cool. The picture of this tour came from the crypt and not from the catacombs.
If we had our time again, there are better tours to go on than this one.

Doing what: Skip the Line: Crypts and Roman Catacombs Small Group Walking Tour
We were lucky to be on this private tour that included just the two of us and a guide who was driving us around Rome in a Mercedes. Our guide Lauren was great.
One thing is that according to the original description of the tour we were supposed to go to the Domitilla Catacombs which are the oldest of Rome's underground burial networks, and the only ones to still contain bones. Instead, we were taken to San Callisto catacombs (unfortunately, no bones there). Still, all three places were amazing and totally worth visiting, and the guide was brilliant. She spent way more time with us than planned 3 hours.

So glad we did this - had been to Rome several time and not done this before. Our guide on the bus was very knowledgeable and interesting. The catacombs tour was great and the extra aquaduct tour and other sites in the country were fascinating. Thanks.

Great tour to do in the afternoon especially if you have done a morning walking tour - get to relax in the air conditioned coach whilst travelling to the catacombs. Was very interesting when we went to the monk bone art as it was an absolute amazing thing to see. You have to pay 1 euro each when you visit the monk bones as they rely on charity but if you do give a bit more then the lady might give you a free post card, like she did for us :) but if you don't wish to pay the extra euro then the tour guide will pay it for you. Was a great tour - had fun without being overwhelmed with too much religion.

Doing what: Catacombs and Roman Countryside Half-Day Walking Tour
Good, the only problem was the groups at the catacombs. They were too big. The area is small, by the time the back half of group gets into a room or area, the guide has moved on. So you have missed what was said. Other than that, they were interesting. The appian way was good, but wish we had more time, and able to walk further. The aqueducts were great to see, but would have liked more time. Over all it was a good tour to get all three activies in, in a limited amount of time.

Shannon and Graham, our guides, were great. This tour was very interesting and educational. The church with the 4,000 bones was strange but interesting. The catacombs were the reason we took this tour.

Doing what: Catacombs and Roman Countryside Half-Day Walking Tour
This tour was very interesting and the guide was very knowledgeable. My only complaint was that there are no actual skeletal remains in the catacombs and that on the Appian way part of the tour I would have enjoyed more investigation of what is left there. We did stop and check out the aqueducts which was amazing.

Doing what: Skip the Line: Crypts and Roman Catacombs Small Group Walking Tour
This was the most macabre tour but possibly the most moving. Combining the first century catacombs outside Rome and the Capuchin crypts was perfect. But who would think to make chapels out of bones and skulls? There was minimal walking and the bus to the catacombs gave views of much of the city we would have missed. Our guide Vincenzo was excellent in his knowledge and attitude.
