This tour was fantastic. We were not expecting to see the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill as well as our Colosseum tour. Our tour guide Elizabeta was fantastic!! She gave us so much detail about all 3 of the sites as well have showing us photos of the old Rome and how it used to look. She was so informative and very lovely to get along with. In the tour we saw so much more than we expected including a stunning view of Rome from the top of the Colosseum. I would recommend this tour to anyone! It really made our trip!
This was a great tour. Our guide was an archaeologist - so cool! It was great to see the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum! I highly recommend. Not too rushed and not too crowded :
What a fantastic tour. Emanuella took us through the Roman Forum and then on to the impressive Colosseum. With our booking we were able to visit the underground and climb to the top tier of the Colosseum - very impressive. We learned so much from this tour. Emanuella was very entertaining - thank you!
Mariella was FANTASTIC! Not only does she have a passion for the history of Rome as an archaeologist, but she was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. My husband and I were so pleased with her guided tour, stories, information, etc and would highly suggest this to anyone going to see the Colosseum and Roman Forum. If we had not done this tour, we would have missed out on so much fascinating information. BRAVO Mariella and THANK YOU!!!
Mariella was extremely knowledgeable and had an archaeological background which helped explain the history of Rome. During our 3 hour tour we saw the Colosseum, Imperial Forums and Roman Forum. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Rome.
The best way to enjoy the history and sights of the Colosseum and Roman Forum! A very informative tour - and skip the line entry is a must!
So nice skipping the line! We were able to walk right in to the Colosseum with our group. Be sure to arrive early-- the meeting place is up on a hill behind the Colosseum and a few people missed the check in time and weren't able to join our group. Our guide, Rosie, is an archaeologist and was very knowledgeable. The tour did run a bit long at the end in the Roman Forum, but we got to see some great things. Would do it again!
This tour was outstanding! We did the 8:30am tour with our wonderful and extremely knowledgeable tour guide Sara! She was so sweet, kind and accommodating to everyone's needs. She walked at a nice pace and spoke amazing English. We all had audio headphones so hearing every word clearly was perfect. Our group was about 15-20 people and it felt perfect. Sara walked us thru the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill informing us of every last detail. Then we headed to the Colosseum where we were lead thru a special entrance to skip the crazy long lines. Why on earth anyone would want to wait in those long lines on vacation is beyond me! We then met up with our tour guide for the Colosseum portion. I can't remember her name but she was young, dark short hair and crazy smart on her knowledge of the Colosseum and Roman history! Her and Sara were the perfect pair! We were walked thru locked gates where we were able to stand in the arena, walk thru the underground chambers and then again stand in the upper tier. People who weren't included in our group kept trying to walk thru the locked gates when they were opened for us by our guides. But since they didn't pay the special tour price, they were turned away. These were the people who waited in the long lines to just walk thru the main floor of the colosseum. I felt like a VIP guest with such limited access to these spots! The weather was perfect as well. Absolutely clear blue skies and about 80 degrees! I can't praise the tour guides enough! Book this tour and you will be blessed!
Excellent tour by Sev, very knowledge about the Roman Forum and Colosseum. Was energetic and humourous. Well worth the money if I had more time would like to take the same tour with him.
This was a great day and well worth it. The skip the line option was well worth it as by 10am the line to enter was wrapping around the front like a snake. The first part of the tour was undercover but then for the remainder it was all outside. At times we were all trying to find shade to keep put of the fierce heat. The tour guide was fabulous and as a roman local was very knowledgable about all things regarding the history of Rome and the Colosseum. After the Colosseum we toured the Roman Forum which again was all in the open but very much worth it. The Roman Forum is next door to the Colosseum and is just a short walk away. After the tour ended we continued to wander around the Forum which covered an area much larger than the Colosseum.
This was the best segway ride we have ever taken and we highly recommend this it was fun and a fantastic way to see the magnificent sights of Rome. Riding around the Colosseum and the Roman Forum plus many other fantastic sights. Matt was our guide and he told us the history and the people that made this fabulous city what it is today. You could can never see enough of this fabulous place . Its a must do. If you want a fun way to see Rome do it this way it will give you so much joy.
Doing what: Rome Segway Tour
We spent just under three and a half hours at the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon and, finally, Piazza Navona under the very experienced and surefooted guidance of Carlotta. Having dispatched the storm clouds and heavy rain of the morning, our afternoon session was carried out in bright sunshine and temperatures in the upper 20s centigrade!. Providing you are adequately prepared hat, sunscreen, water etc you will find Carlotta to be an excellent and knowledgeable guide and her passion made for a fantastic afternoon. The official tour itinerary included a call in at the Trevi Fountain but, as this is currently undergoing refurbishment, Carlotta was careful to solicit the opinions of the group as to whether we should bypass this which we unanimously did and instead we went to the Capitoline Hill which was a great add on. Given that the Colosseum and the Forum are the two central features relating to Ancient Rome this is a tour not to be missed!
Doing what: Ancient Rome Half-Day Walking Tour
Can't believe how much you got to see on this tour. The Roman Forum was good, loads of different aged buildings. Our guide Maura (sorry if that's spelt wrong) was really good at explaining things with her book. We had a different guide in the Colosseum who took us around all the levels.
The tour of the undergound, the arena and the upper tier was worth the extra money for this tour. It was nice to see the Colosseum from all levels. As for the Palantne Hill and the Roman Forum, they are ok. Not much there so it is mostly you using your imagination. Still worth it.
Amazing tour! We stood in no line at all other than a few minutes at the security checkpoint and that's it. The best part about this tour was honestly our tour guide I wish I could remember her name. She was fantastic in the way she explained and the way she had books with loads of pictures to show us everything in detail and help us really live the perfect mood. Because of her wonderful explanation of history, our whole group was suddenly standing inside the Colosseum imagining exactly the way it was almost 2000 years ago. After the Colosseum, we took another tour around the Roman Forum and it was also really nice! So much history and so much beauty that we felt we could spend the whole day listening to more and more stories. Just wonderful!
Comprehensive tour. I would have liked to spend more time in the Roman Forum and less on the Palatine Hill.
This tour was wonderful. Our tour guide Barbara is an archeologist who actually excavated part of the Roman forum. She grew up playing in the Roman forum and really had a passion for the whole area! She also spoke English beautifully. I highly recommend this tour, it was well organized from start to finish and she really helped us to imagine things from Roman times.
My family and I took this tour in late June 2015 as our first introduction to the city of Rome. What a fantastic experience! Our tour guide, Valentina, was incredibly knowledgeable about the Colosseum and Roman Forum- it was clear she had an extensive background in the area, as well as a great enthusiasm for the subject she almost couldnt tell us enough! As we walked, she wove together details about each structures architecture with anecdotes about how ancient Romans used them, vibrantly bringing history to life. She even incorporated visual aids with her explanations so that we could see what things looked like back then. Because of the magnitude of the ruins, its impossible to visit everything on a half-day tour, but in my opinion our tour stopped at all the best spots. Some of our favorites were atop Palatine Hill. She taught us so much that we found ourselves repeating facts shed told us for the duration of our stay in Rome!
In terms of interaction and logistics, Valentina was conscientious about answering everyones questions so that the group could hear and understand before moving on. She also ensured that each group member had a chance to take in the visual aids. She navigated us through the crowds with skill, and at a pace slow enough so that the entire group could keep up. We were able to stop and fill up our water bottles, and there was also a scheduled restroom break during the tour.
All in all, a wonderful time. A breathtaking world heritage site combined with a personable and very knowledgeable guide a great way to begin a trip in the Eternal City. I'd recommend this tour to both those with a knowledge of the subject and those who may be new to Roman history. Thanks Viator, and thanks Valentina, for a truly memorable and educational experience!
Danielle was very informative throughout the tour as was the lady who took over at the Colosseum. The Roman Forum was fantastic and having a guide there to show us pictures of what it was like was very helpful to get the larger picture. I would recommend this tour when in Rome.
Stephanie, was an amazing tour guide. She was very knowledgeable and knew her facts about the colosseum and the roman forums. Would sign up for this tour again in a heartbeat
The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and gave us plenty of time to go off on our own and explore the Colosseum after the tour. The walk through the Roman Forum and Palantine Hill was excellent as well.
An outstanding tour of Ancient Rome, including the Roman Forum, the Palantine Hill, and the Colosseum. The highlight was a tour of the subterranean area of the Colosseum. The tour guide was excellent. She is an archeologist and so really knew the sites very well.
This tour was very informative and interesting. It was nice to do the Roman forum before the colosseum as it gave you the knowledge and understand of how and why the colosseum came about. The tour guide was very passionate about Rome and what happen to create it. She answered all questions with a stream of information and seems as if there was nothing she did not know! A big thank you to the tour guide for a lovely morning and very interesting tour!
Our guide was Sev, a lecturer at a local university and an archaeologist. His narration of a typical day at the games, in days gone by was riveting and made it all come to life for us. We felt like we had been given a ticket for the games and shared the excitement and anticipation with tens of thousands of other ancient Romans. Sev spoke of the days activities, hunting and killing the animals that would be dressed and cooked for lunch later in the day, the wild, strange and exotic beasts that were defeated by warriors, the punishment of criminals and Christians then the battles and fighting of their revered gladiator heroes. It was spellbinding. Sev's depth of knowledge, stories and anecdotes of life in Ancient Rome continued all through the walk around the Roman Forum and around the ancient ruins. The tour was well paced with plenty of shady rests on a very hot day. One of our highlights.
My husband and I took this tour and most enjoyed the morning portion, which included the colosseum and roman forum disclosure that we did not stay for the entirety of the afternoon tour, but only because it was so hot and we were exhaustedfull that tour guide was also very good and knowledgeable for the time we were there. Our tour guide Alessandro was excellent. He was very passionate about the subject matter which made the experience very enjoyable. He was very helpful to everyone on the toureven as it was 98 degrees or more outside! We would definitely recommend this tour.
