We did experience the full glory of Rome's Colosseum as our tour guide was quite passionate about Roman history. We explored areas in the underground chambers and arena and upper level usually off limits to the public. After thoroughly exploring the Colosseum we walked over to the Roman Forum and received an extensive history lesson from our wonderful guide.
Very enjoyable tour - tough not to enjoy the Colosseum and Roman Forum - so much intrigue and history.
This tour was truly the highlight of our time in Rome. Claudia was a very knowledgeable and bubbly host. Having the advantage of being a small-group tour limited to six people, she took the time to get to know little things about each of us, offered to take photos of us and always answered any of our questions. Pros: skip the line tickets, separate entrance to the crowds into the middle of the Colesso, underground access, views right from the top of the Colosseo, a knowledgeable host that is always reminding you to keep hydrated and took every opportunity to position us in the shade during the 40 degree Celsius heat!. Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum was towards the end of the tour, but was still as interesting as the main event. Compared to some other excursions we did during Rome where the large-groups required you to wear headsets, this small-group tour is much more personal and really adds to the overall experience. I would highly recommend this tour and if I ever I have the opportunity to revisit Rome would jump at the chance to repeat this tour.

We really enjoyed our tour of Ancient Rome. Our guide, though she claimed she knew very little English, was very informative and answered all of our questions in great detail. It was a very hot afternoon, so she was very considerate, too, letting us stop in the shade and fill up our water bottles all the time. We started with the Roman Forum first and then the Palatine Hill, finishing up with the Colosseum. There was quite a bit of walking, but all at a relaxed pace, and we never had to wait in lines for entrance to any of the sites.
This was a very thorough tour, inclusive of the Roman Forum, loads of history beginning with Trajan's Column, and ending with a wonderful evening tour of the Colosseum. Our archaeologist-leader, Christina, was as knowledgeable as they come, very kind, and kept the pacing going comfortably. I get why they say that strollers and wheelchairs cannot be accommodated--their were a couple of steep hikes up stairs, and the walking is over 10,000 steps, but the evening breeze and lack of sweltering sun keeps the tour enjoyable. My family loved having the Colosseum all to ourselves at this hour, and it's not too dark for awesome photo opps! This was a highlight of our Roman holiday! We learned so much! :
Doing what: Colosseum and Ancient Rome Tour by Night
We had an excellent guide and the tour of the Roman Forum and the Colosseum was fantastic. We skipped the lines for the Colosseum and it was everything and more than I expected. I would highly recommend this tour for first time visitors to Rome.
This was an amazing tour! Our guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable. The directions provided to us to get us to the meeting place were easy to follow, the tour started on time, and we spent just enough time seeing both the Roman Forum and the Colosseum. I would definitely recommend this tour!
Great tour guides who were enthusiastic and passionate about the history of Rome. We highly recommend doing these tours. The guide bring life to the ruines in the Roman Forum and helps you understand the history behind it.

Very good tour and our guide Francesca was very nice. We had to skip the afternoon tour because this was our 7th tour in 5 days. We went on the morning tour because it was the Colosseum and Roman Forum. We were not disappointed. Large crowds but Francesca kept us moving and I have to say the little radio/earphone equipment they have is great. Important note if you are arriving by taxi and you say take me to Metro B station like the instructions. You don't have to go downstairs into the station - the meeting place is just behind the taxi drop off lane. Don't go down the steps towards the Colosseum. Look to the right and behind you - that little park area is the meeting location. It will save you 5 minutes and you end up just 50 feet away. LOL
Our tour guide was Vicente and he was very knowledgable on the Colosseum and Roman Forum. We learned so much and we were so intrigued by the history. What a great tour! Well worth the money. And it was a beautiful day which made it so much better to be out in the sun. Just be sure to wear good shoes
This was definitely the best way to see the Colosseum. This tour included passes to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill which was a surprise for us as we just expected the Colosseum. But what an amazing bonus! The history and mix of ancient architecture and ruins in the Forum is mind-blowing and rather surreal. We skipped all the queues and on this tour we passed through locked gates into the bowels of the amphitheatre to tread where the gladiators did. We learned how the Romans thought the spectacular events put on in the arena were like magic, with animals appearing from apparently nowhere. To see 'backstage' was an experience not to be missed. With this special pass we also were taken to the top level where there were spectacular views of the Forum below. It wasn't overcrowded as the access was for just one tour at a time. Both tour guides were interesting, friendly and highly knowledgeable. Our guide even remembered every single one of our names, and there were quite a few of us! This was the best tour we did in Rome. What an amazing, barbaric but beautiful place!

Francesca, our tour guide for the afternoon, and another Francesca, who was our tour guide inside the Colosseum, were both excellent. The tour took us to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill with the first Francesca, and then to all levels of the Colosseum with our second tour guide. Seeing the underground section of the Colosseum was AMAZING! Despite all the unexpected questions from tour guests, we started and finished right on time. I highly recommend this tour.
Very good tour for ages 5-12. Tour guide was great, and engaged with all kids. One kid was super smart and dominated conversation, and the tour guide handled it well overall. I learned a lot from the kids questions as well. It was a really hot day, so the Roman Forum was a bit dull/hot for the average kid mine, but once we got to the collisium, all kids were alive and engaged. Kids had interactive games to play with the tour guide. Good for kids!
Really informative with Emmanuelle, she knew her stuff adn we really enjoyed our tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Do wear comfortable footwear as there's a lot of walking on 3 hours.

This was an amazing tour, mostly because our guide Fabrizio was very knowledgeable and obviously passionate about the subject material. We saw the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Our guide had pictures of how it looked in its prime, which were very helpful. The tour was through CityWonders and it seems that every time I book a tour with them they have fantastic, knowledgeable guides.
The only way to see the Colosseum is with a archeologist/tour guide. Besides skipping the incredibly long entrance lines, our guide Claudia brought the Colosseum and the Roman Forum to life with her stories, history lessons, drawings, pictures, and first hand knowledge of treasures that are still being unearthed in these sites. Our afternoon tour with Mariana was fun and light hearted, yet educational and informative as we walked the streets of Rome and enjoyed an afternoon break with gelato. In my opinion, there is no better way to truly see, learn, and experience Rome in a day than with this tour. Highly recommended.
Sara was a fantastic tour guide. Very easy to listen to and understand, provided more than enough information about ancient Rome. It was quite hot when we went in June so wear something cool and comfortable to walk around in. Fantastic tour, best way to cover the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palentine's hill. Highly recommend!!
This was our first tour in Rome. You definitely want to book a tour that skips the line getting into the Colosseum as I saw how long they were for other people. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, and took us swiftly through the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. You can't say you visited Rome if you don't visit these two sites. It is an intense 3 hours of history and sight seeing. Bring comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking through uneven terrain.
Enthusiastic tour guide who could have easily gone for longer. Great tour of the Colosseum as well as Roman Forum with pictures to show you what used to be. I recommend for any history nut

We booked the Colosseum Underground and Ancient Rome Small-Group Tour with a tour company through Viator. We were especially lucky to have Sergio as our tour guide, and doubly lucky because my wife and I were the only ones taking the tour on that particular Saturday. Sergio was the best guide we had in Italy, out of five or so tours ranging from Pompeii to Venice to Rome. He was engaging, EXTREMELY knowledgeable, and patient and kind to my wife as she needed to stop occasionally. He brought a bag full of helpful visual aids in the form of maps and picture books, including some with overlays so we could see what the ruins looked like in ancient times. Sergio ended up spending almost an hour extra with us!
The Colosseum Underground tour was a don't miss experience. It was quite an experience to be able to go into the bowels of the stadium, and from there to the upper reaches... all places reserved for small group tours, and not the masses. A representative from the Colosseum had to accompany us, unlocking various gates to let us into these less-traveled places. We got to see and hear from Sergio about some very unique characteristics of the Colosseum, like the many trapdoors and pulleys used to bring up wild animals from the holding cells below the main floor.
We were a bit tired by the time we started the climb to the Palatine Hill on the Ancient Rome part of the tour, and pretty wiped out for the last downhill leg to the Roman Forum. Palatine Hill was nice in part because of the gentle breezes cooling us off. There were several vantage points providing interesting views, including the site of the former Circus Maximus although it's mostly just a large open area now. Sergio's interest and enthusiasm remained unflagging throughout the tour, and we came away with a new appreciation for ancient Rome.
The underground chamber and arena were actually closed the day of the tour but the company reimbursed be and still have a nice tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum
This was an excellent tour mainly because of our guide - Francesca I hope that's right!. She was very passionate about what she spoke about and even showed us photos to help further explain. It was very interesting and informative and combined with a good walk around the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum - just excellent.
Tour was excellent. Colosseum tour was very extensive with upgrade. Would have liked to have seen more of the Roman Forum but with tour being 3.5 hours, still felt like we saw a lot. Guide was great!
Amazing tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum. The best tour we did during our stay in Rome.
Excellent tour, must take, you do not want to stand in line for this site. The guide was excellent and the sites were awesome. The walking was not bad and worth the walk from the colosseum to the Roman forum.
