Very good tour for ages 5-12. Tour guide was great, and engaged with all kids. One kid was super smart and dominated conversation, and the tour guide handled it well overall. I learned a lot from the kids questions as well. It was a really hot day, so the Roman Forum was a bit dull/hot for the average kid mine, but once we got to the collisium, all kids were alive and engaged. Kids had interactive games to play with the tour guide. Good for kids!
Really informative with Emmanuelle, she knew her stuff adn we really enjoyed our tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Do wear comfortable footwear as there's a lot of walking on 3 hours.

This was an amazing tour, mostly because our guide Fabrizio was very knowledgeable and obviously passionate about the subject material. We saw the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Our guide had pictures of how it looked in its prime, which were very helpful. The tour was through CityWonders and it seems that every time I book a tour with them they have fantastic, knowledgeable guides.
The only way to see the Colosseum is with a archeologist/tour guide. Besides skipping the incredibly long entrance lines, our guide Claudia brought the Colosseum and the Roman Forum to life with her stories, history lessons, drawings, pictures, and first hand knowledge of treasures that are still being unearthed in these sites. Our afternoon tour with Mariana was fun and light hearted, yet educational and informative as we walked the streets of Rome and enjoyed an afternoon break with gelato. In my opinion, there is no better way to truly see, learn, and experience Rome in a day than with this tour. Highly recommended.
Sara was a fantastic tour guide. Very easy to listen to and understand, provided more than enough information about ancient Rome. It was quite hot when we went in June so wear something cool and comfortable to walk around in. Fantastic tour, best way to cover the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palentine's hill. Highly recommend!!
This was our first tour in Rome. You definitely want to book a tour that skips the line getting into the Colosseum as I saw how long they were for other people. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, and took us swiftly through the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. You can't say you visited Rome if you don't visit these two sites. It is an intense 3 hours of history and sight seeing. Bring comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking through uneven terrain.
Enthusiastic tour guide who could have easily gone for longer. Great tour of the Colosseum as well as Roman Forum with pictures to show you what used to be. I recommend for any history nut

We booked the Colosseum Underground and Ancient Rome Small-Group Tour with a tour company through Viator. We were especially lucky to have Sergio as our tour guide, and doubly lucky because my wife and I were the only ones taking the tour on that particular Saturday. Sergio was the best guide we had in Italy, out of five or so tours ranging from Pompeii to Venice to Rome. He was engaging, EXTREMELY knowledgeable, and patient and kind to my wife as she needed to stop occasionally. He brought a bag full of helpful visual aids in the form of maps and picture books, including some with overlays so we could see what the ruins looked like in ancient times. Sergio ended up spending almost an hour extra with us!
The Colosseum Underground tour was a don't miss experience. It was quite an experience to be able to go into the bowels of the stadium, and from there to the upper reaches... all places reserved for small group tours, and not the masses. A representative from the Colosseum had to accompany us, unlocking various gates to let us into these less-traveled places. We got to see and hear from Sergio about some very unique characteristics of the Colosseum, like the many trapdoors and pulleys used to bring up wild animals from the holding cells below the main floor.
We were a bit tired by the time we started the climb to the Palatine Hill on the Ancient Rome part of the tour, and pretty wiped out for the last downhill leg to the Roman Forum. Palatine Hill was nice in part because of the gentle breezes cooling us off. There were several vantage points providing interesting views, including the site of the former Circus Maximus although it's mostly just a large open area now. Sergio's interest and enthusiasm remained unflagging throughout the tour, and we came away with a new appreciation for ancient Rome.
The underground chamber and arena were actually closed the day of the tour but the company reimbursed be and still have a nice tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum
This was an excellent tour mainly because of our guide - Francesca I hope that's right!. She was very passionate about what she spoke about and even showed us photos to help further explain. It was very interesting and informative and combined with a good walk around the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum - just excellent.
Tour was excellent. Colosseum tour was very extensive with upgrade. Would have liked to have seen more of the Roman Forum but with tour being 3.5 hours, still felt like we saw a lot. Guide was great!
Amazing tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum. The best tour we did during our stay in Rome.
Excellent tour, must take, you do not want to stand in line for this site. The guide was excellent and the sites were awesome. The walking was not bad and worth the walk from the colosseum to the Roman forum.
Our tour guide, Davide, was really interesting to walk with. He was clearly very knowledgeable on the subject at hand Roman/Papal history, colliseum, roman forum, etc, and also quite entertaining in his story-telling. He is one of those kinds of people that I would like to sit down for a few drinks and talk about his views and perceptions, because he's knowledge runs so deeply. Really a great time and money well spent!
Allisandro was a great guide. Very knowledgeable and gave us great insight. Was really looking forward to the Colloseum tour, and was blown away by the Roman Forum part of the tour as well.
Both tour guides Alessandro and Dario were great to be around and their information just was on point and incredible. The morning at the Colosseum and the Roman Forum hit all the key sites and had enough information and time so you really understood how these were all connected and how ancient Romans walked through the streets. We left the tour thinking wow we need to come back time and time again to keep visiting the sites with Alessandro! The afternoon tour was a nice pace to get to see some of the places in more modern Rome and see how they connected back as well. Dario had so much great info not just about history but how history was made, how the buildings connect together, how the artists that made them thought about their work, it was really a pleasure seeing him look at a fountain and then start talking about inspiration for it, the architects, etc. I would highly recommend this tour, as I would do this one again and again!
Really great tour with a fantastically knowledgeable tour guide - an archeologist with expertise in early Roman history. Coleseum was magnificent and the Roman Forum just amazing. Great tour, thoroughly recommend. Great organisation by the company conducting the tour for Viator.
This was a great tour. Both our guides were excellent and very attentive. The roman forums part of the trip was beautiful and the private tour at the coloseum seal the trip with a perfect view from the eagle's nest.
This tour was fascinating. To be able to see and be in the Colosseum finally was amazing. The Roman Forum was impressive as well. The guide was very knowledgeable and was great.
Our Italian guide was fluent in English. We visited on Good Friday so the line-up to get into the Colosseum at 8:30 was already quite long. Our tour started with Ancient Rome. Our guide was very knowledgeable explaining the history of Ancient Rome including the roads, the ruins and showed us pictures of the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill as they had been so long ago. It was fascinating to hear the stories of the Pagans and the Christians, the Emperors and the amazing view from Palatine Hill etc... We then headed to the Colosseum, where we were given a private entrance so did not have to line-up in the incredibly long line. We were joined with Mikael, a tour guide from the Colosseum who had the keys to off-limit places for the general public. Mikael was very passionate and knowledgeable about the Colosseum. We explained the Arena, what happened there, allowed questions and tie for photos. Next we visited the Underground Chambers. Really cool to experience. Again more explanations regarding the animals and the gladiators who were down there. We then moved on to the Upper Tier with more explanations erc. So much history that we would not have learned otherwise. As we were completing our tour, we could see the incredibly long line-up and our guide commented that a lot of the people would not get in due to the volume of people. So glad we took the tour.
Wonderful tour. We came in may and the days are hot but the night tour was much cooler. Seeing it at night has no crowds except for the other small night tours. Our guide was great with lots of knowledge about the collisieum and the Roman forum. I would do this tour again.
Doing what: Colosseum and Ancient Rome Tour by Night
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. I was most impressed with her. While I only attended the portion of the tour for the Roman Forum, it was definitely worth it.
Our guide's name was Serafina, and she was wonderful. We really enjoyed her explanations of the Roman Forum and Palantine Hill. She also explained that the Roman water fountains around the city contain drinkable water and are free to anyone. This was very helpful on the hot, sunny days!! The Underground Tour of the Colosseum was amazing and very interesting to learn more about that section of the history.
Excellent tour, well worth paying for skipping the line as the queue was long! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. A must for anybody visiting Rome, after all who doesnt want to see the Colosseum! Highly recommended!
An excellent tour with a very good guide. Very hot in the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill but water bottles can be filled from a fountain in the Hill. This was an early afternoon tour on a hot May Day 30 degrees C that would have benefitted from the cooler visit to the Colosseum being programmed before that to the outdoor Forum. Thoroughly recommend this small party tour to include the underground chambers and floor of the arena.
