In Ancient Rome, the Forum was the centre of the Roman Empire. Until the 4th century AD, a thousand years of decisions affecting the future of Europe were made here. When Roman soldiers were out conquering the world in the name of the Emperors, temples, courts, markets, and government buildings were thriving in the Forum.
Located between two of Rome's famous hills, the Palatine and Capitoline Hills, it is now a collection of ruins having spent centuries as a quarry for marble and a cow paddock. The Forum became a very dense collection of buildings in its time but mostly all that remains today is columns, arches, and some scattered marbles so it can be difficult to make sense of it all. Ongoing archaeological work continues, and getting a map or a guide can really bring the bustle of the ancient site to life. You can get a great view over the Forum from the overlooking hills in the Farnese Gardens and from Michelangelo's Piazza del Campidoglio.

This was an amazing tour, the guide Simone was a genuinely nice, informative and funny guide, always making little jokes and giving you funny stories behind the history of Rome, lots of great advice was provided and he was a fountain of all things Roman, you really do skip the queue for the Colosseum which is usually long, and the Roman Forum is beautiful... seriously book this trip today!!

Doing what: Ancient Rome Half-Day Walking Tour
This tour was the best we booked with Viator. It covered just about all the ancient areas of Rome that any person visiting should see. The Roman Forum, Colosseum, Pantheon, Palazza Navona and more. It was ALOT of walking, but our tour guide, Viviana, was very knowledgable - an archeologist by trade!

Doing what: Skip the Line: Ancient Rome and Colosseum Half-Day Walking Tour
We would highly recommend this tour to al first time visitors to Rome. We did the upgraded tour that included the lower level and the third level, this was worth it. The views of the Colosseum from the third level gave you a great view of the entire amphitheater. There are many stair in the Colosseum that many seemed to find difficult. The tour of the Roman Forum was very informative, great history lesson.
Practical Info
The Roman Forum is an easy walk from the Colosseum and the closest metro is Colosseo. Many buses also pass close by.
