How to Get to Rome
Getting to Rome from Civitavecchia requires about an hour's journey by train. The train station is a 10-minute walk from the port, or a short shuttle ride (alight at the Michelangelo Fort). Trains run half-hourly to Rome’s Termini station, taking around 75 minutes or under an hour if you catch an express. You could also organize a private transfer or shore excursion tour including return transport to Civitavecchia.
One Day in Rome
If you’re wondering how to squeeze Rome’s highlights into one day, the easiest thing to do is join a shore excursion. If you’d rather go it alone, catch a bus, taxi or underground train and make your way to the Vatican to see St Peter’s Basilica and browse the Vatican Museums. Or perhaps you’d rather see the Colosseum and walk among the ruins of the Roman Forum. For these major attractions and more, Viator offers Skip the Line passes to make the most of your limited time in Rome.
Stop off for lunch at a pizza restaurant in the historic city center, near the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, and go window shopping for designer fashion and Italian style along Via dei Condotti near the Spanish Steps.
Port Information
All major cruise lines dock at Civitavecchia, including Royal Caribbean, Princess, Carnival, Costa, Oceania, Celebrity, Holland America, Seabourn and Regent Seven Seas. Be prepared to exchange your money for euros. ATMs offer the best exchange rate but banks and "cambio" booths are also readily available. The local language is Italian but the cosmopolitan nature of Rome lends it to be easily navigable by English speakers.

Doing what: Civitavecchia Private Transfer: Civitavecchia Cruise Port to Rome Fiumicino Airport
Although more costly than other options for getting from central Rome to the port, this was an outstanding choice. Driver was very prompt and professional. We were able to go on our own timetable and arrived in comfort.

Doing what: Civitavecchia Private Transfer: Civitavecchia Cruise Port to Rome Fiumicino Airport
We had an early flight and were nervous about making it to the airport on time. Imagine our happiness when our disembarkation was so smooth and painless that we were finished 40 minutes before we had ordered the car (thanks Norwegian Jade) then our driver showed up 30 minutes early. Perfect timing!
