What a fantastic way for my husband and I to start our 4 day trip in Rome. We were guided through the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica by Serena in a group of 18 people. 27th September was World Tourism Day which meant entrance was free and there was probably more people than usual taking advantage of the free day. Serena was still able to keep our group together through the crowds of people and got us all through to the end in one piece! She was very informative with the history of The Vatican in particular the paintings of Michelangelo, but made it enjoyable and certainly not a stuffy history lesson. She was funny and injected humor into the tour and loved to pass on pieces of "historical gossip" in her guide, which was appreciated by the group. We paid £52.26 for the tour and 12 euros for the booking fee and use of the headsets. I must admit, if we had to pay the 21 euros each for the usual entrance fee, it would have been a bit expensive for 2 people and if we were there with family, we would not have considered taking a guided tour. That said, I really did enjoy our walk and would recommend it to anyone visiting Rome.

Excellent guide (Rosella) and very good value for money. A very hot day for the tour but our guide was very considerate and kept us as much as possible in the shade. She provided us with so much information, particularly about the decor of the Sistine Chapel. We would never have learned as much had we taken the tour by ourselves. The earphones provided were very clear. As part of a group, we were able to do exactly as the tour says "Skip the Line". We had no waiting time, whereas the queues for individuals were very long. If you are intending to visit the Vatican, we would recommend doing it properly, spending a bit more money and taking a tour. There are plenty to choose from, but we were very pleased with the tour we had booked with Enjoy Rome and wouldn't hesitate to use them again on another visit. On a hot day, remember to take a water bottle, that you can refill from the fountains inside the Vatican.

Doing what: Skip the Line: Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel Tour

Well, since finally getting home safe, and on Xmas Eve to be precise, we watched the film Angels and Demons again. Having SEEN these places for real, the film had a new impact on us. "we know THAT" we yelled like kids in the Saturday pictures..." we KNOW that"
Yes we know it now.
What did we see? well the guide ripped us through the best bit, to get to the Sistine Chapel which is over-rated in my personal view. Much more interesting, awe-inspiring and beautiful, let alone SKILLFULLY DONE, is the Tapestry Gallery, which leads towards the Sistine Chapel. If you got the chance to go without a tour guide on a strictly scripted and very limited language ability descriptive, do so.
Go see the Tapestry Gallery for yourself, at your own pace. The Sistine Chapel has these men who run around "shusshing! everyone. You are not permitted to photograph, or speak whilst in there (??) They take your money, encourage people to be tourists in the Papal See/Vatican City, yet don't allow you to talk in the so-called premier attraction. For me, it was just a large room, divided in two by a sort of wooden structrure, with Frescos on all surfaces. Albeit, by someone famous, but the Tapestry Gallery was by far, more awesome and memorable in my eyes. I'm not Catholic, but I surely appreciated the craftsmanship of those tapestries and the fresco paintings in that gallery. The guide agreed they LOOKED like carved images, but in fact, they are painted in 3D...that, for me, was the highlight of the entire week in Rome!!

Its a very rushed tour.. we had two languages on our tour so perhaps with one it would be more relaxed but in general you were rushing to get up to where the guide was.. you'd miss half of what she'd say and then she would speak in spanish. The group was far too large.. we had 47 people.
and I would have felt as though maybe it was worth it if I'd come out and there was a huge line to get into the vatican but in reality there is only a huge mass of people earlier with all the tour groups "skipping the lines". There would be no line if you went at noon.
It is nice that they pick you up at your hotel. the bus drive over is also used as a little tour of rome as well. Also on the return trip (after you are rushed out to the bus)- you get no chance at the gift shop if you like souvenirs- instead you are driven to a shop that just sells rosary beads. Which we spend the same amount of time as in the sistine chapel. Instead the should include a bathroom break before going into the chapel and cut out the rosary bead store. Everyone had to go to the bathroom when we were in the highlight of the tour. This was not well organized time wise.
However If you are short on time and want to see the Sistine Chapel and still have the rest of the day to enjoy something else in Rome than this tour does do the trick.

We booked tickets for a 3.5 hour tour. We were limited with time as our coach back to our accomodation outside Rome left at 6. However we had enough time to complete the tour and catch our bus following how the tour was planned.
We were told to be there at 2.15, so we were, Nice and early ready to start our tour at 2.30, but we were waiting for 8 people who were late...
Our guide decided to get into the vatican 10 minutes later as these people had not turned up. then we had to get our tickets and the 8 appeared... late, wich delayed even more our start. Once in. shortly after starting a coffe break... I don't pay £42 per person to have coffee breaks! well it was supposed to be 15 minutes and it turned to be 30 minutes as once again we were waiting for the 8 who had turned up late and were now having a longer break. All this lead to skipping areas of the museum as time was ticking and even with a comment from our guide "I will skip this part as I could talk all day abou it and you would not even remember it anyway" An insult for someone like me who has a degree in Art and was looking forward to see the vatican collection. in the end we were so late that by the time we had to leave to our coach we we had just arrived to the sistine chapel. We left without seeing the basilica a massive dissapointment. We paid a lot of money for a very rushed experience due to respecting those who were late and not those who had complied and were nice and early. A apaulling service.

This tour included the Vatican and Sistine Chapel and was a very informative day with our wonderful tour guide Anna (we thought it included St Peter's Basilica but was closed on Wednesday morning so we were unable to go). Anna was a gem. She was very considerate of all the age groups, people wanting to take pictures, and even a couple that had two babies with them. She made sure everyone was comfortable and that no one was ever left behind. She was extremely knowledgeable and made the history lesson very interesting and enjoyable. I thoroughly enjoyed having her as our tour guide. Overall I’m a fan and would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of seeing Rome and learning its history.

As a first time visitors to the Vatican our family was awe-struck by the tremendous beauty of all the art. The guide was patient and informative. I wish we had a week to visit and a day just to sit in the Sistine Chapel. Our most favorite tour of Rome and our European vacation.

As this was a Ruby Wedding trip to Rome our sons booked us the visit to the Vatican and it was undoubtedly the highlight of our holiday. The ability to skip the queues was obviously a big advantage but the visit would have been much less interesting without the detailed description of everything we were actually seeing. The guide was very knowledgeable and witty which made the whole visit very enjoyable. The details she was able to point out in both the Sistine Chapel and St Peters would have completely escaped our attention without the guide. The tour is an absolute must.

We took this tour as we only had a partial day in Rome. Meeting spot was VERY hard to find. Started late and the tour went way too long. Our tour guide was a nice guy, very knowledgeable...BUT we were not art majors. Spent almost an hour talking before we even entered the Vatican Museum. He spoke ad nauseuem on a few pieces of art and just skipped through others. Found myself wandering off to take pictures of the OTHER art. He was interesting but there was just TOO much. A couple left our group and others were looking bored at times. WE ended up having to leave and rush through the Sistine Chapel and totally missed St. Peter's because we had to grab a bus to our train back to Sorrento. It was nice to skip the lines and get in quickly.

This tour is a must, we had lunch at the corner restaurant on the hill facing the Vatican museums enterance (delicious lasagna) and the queue was massive, after lunch we walked down to the office to meet our guide and the rest of our party, the queue hadn't gone down any when we walked up the hill to start our tour but we just walked straight in so it's well worth booking online. Our guide was fantastic she knew all there is to know and even with the large often ignorant rabble Wednesday afternoons seem to attract she was as cool as cucumber and even rearanged the tour schedule so we never missed a thing as it was extremely busy, so if possible avoid Wednesday afternoons. We had a great 4 day stay in Rome and seen most of the sights we intended see'ing, but with the running commentarry and detailed explanations of everything from start to finish our Vatican Museums visit was by far the most enjoyable and interesting part of our visit to this wonderful city. I'm sorry I forget our guides name but I will post some pics of this wonderful lady whose knowledge made the trip a memorable one and one I will do again as I'd love to do this tour on a quieter day, they really should limit the crowds especially in the Sistine Chapel as some guides (unlike ours I must say) seemed to lose some members of their parties who just barged about trying to find them...all in all a great experience and very well explained and described by the knowledgeable one!.. thanks.

No trip to Rome is complete without a visit to the Vatican. This tour covers all the highlights. You could spend days in there and not see it all but with this tour you don't have to. Our guide was wonderful - very friendly and informative as all the Viator guides are. Be sure to practice taking pictures of the ceiling on the sly as photos in the Sistine chapel are not permitted!

I have just returned from a 5 day trip to Rome with a friend, as it was the first time for both of us going to this beautiful city I decided to book with yourselves before we left England. I must say our guide was an American , who was very friendly and informative and made the 3 and half hour tour pass without you realising how far you had walked. I would certainly recommend you to anyone considering a trip to see the Vatican museums Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica. Thank you

A great time! We got into the Museum at exactly 8:10, and got through the museums with literally no one there. And a small group of 5 that day! Seeing the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's were the true highlights. Fantastic! But dodging the crowds, which are still massive in October when we went, was a huge help. The tour guide we had was great, answered all our questions, and was extremely respectful and helpful throughout. Well worth it to see the museums in the early hours - you're out in plenty of time to go for lunch somewhere else in Rome.

Tour guide "Tiffany" was excellant, very knowledgeable and entertaining. We did the tour in winter and although cold the crowds were down which made it a great time to visit the Vatican, Sistine Chapel & St Peter's. The tour lasted approx 3 hours and seemed shorter due to the sheer beauty of the Art and treasures we were allowed to see. I am in my late 50's and was recovering from a broken leg and managed the long walk up & down stairs quite easily. I would recommend this tour and if I ever return to Rome would not hesitate to do it again. Only difficulty we had was the location in trying to find the Tour guide so I recommend the day before do your homework in locating the meeting point and do not leave it to the last minute especially if you do the early morning tour.

Our day in Rome began with this tour and it was a great kick-off to our day! It was very convenient especially after seeing the long line wrapped around the Vatican Museum as we just walked right in. Our guide was very knowledgeable and organized. She maintained a steady pace, but at the same time allowed us time to enjoy the art and history. When we entered the Sistine Chapel we were allowed time to sit and admire this wonderful display of art. We finished our tour with St. Peters Basilica and it was an incredible experience. I would definitely recommend Viator to anybody who wants to fully enjoy the whole experience of the Vatican City.
