This was a most enjoyable and informative day out. The villa was interesting and the gardens were amazing- not to be missed!
Fantastic afternoon trip and great to get out of the city for a while. Our guide, Rebecca, was superb and extremely knowledgeable. Her passion for the subject is to be commended and certainly makes the trip even more enjoyable. An extra hour in Tivoli would have been great so that there would be time to see Villa d'Este in its entirety and to grab a coffe as well but we would highly recommend this tour.
Excellent day! Luca and Louise were knowledgeable and friendly. Hadrian's Villa was so much more than I expected and Villa D'Este was breathtaking. Only wish we'd had more time
2nd time we did this trip. This time not 1/2 day, but full day. And this time it was perfect. Great guide! Hadrian's villa was amazing, but Villa d'eEste blew our mind once again.
Villa d'Este was wonderful, although the Hadrian's Villa wasn't that impressive, probably because it's just ruins. The tour was satisfying.
Both of the places visited were fantastic, I just wish the tour was a little longer, to enjoy each place for longer. Rather than an hour at each place, at least an extra half an hour would be better. To get as many pics as possible I left the tour and wondered off alone and then caught up. The fountains at Villa d'Este are beautiful, it would have been good to just sit down and enjoy them, rather than running around to see it all.
We did not have enough time at Villa dEste, we loved Hadrians
This trip to Tivoli rounded our Rome trip nicely! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and excited about Villa D'Este, although she seemed less interested in Hadrian's Villa, which seems to have more history associated with it. This was an English Tour. Two people in the group (who came together) spoke Spanish and said that they were fine with the tour being in English. Yet the guide not only said everything in Spanish in addition to English, but spent very disproportionate amount giving these two people individualized attention. Still a great trip with beautiful sites!!!
The venues were interesting and well worth viewing. Unfortunately, the tour guide had not been at the sites for over three months and there were some issues with construction, timing, etc. particularly at Hadrian's villa. The guide was also not helpful in adapting to visitors with different physical abilities and limitations and completely unhelpful regarding specifying workable lunch sites. Would recommend the trip but would suggest extending it so the pace can be less rushed.
A bit disappointing. Realise time would be limited on just an afternoon trip but felt we saw very little of the main sights of Hadrian's Villa. Only a few ruins. Were not taken to see any of the monuments or statues. Missed out on the well-known sight of statues round the rectangular pool! Have seen better ruins in Pompeii - in fact would have been better staying in Rome and walking round the Forums.
Villa d'Este worth seeing but only time to look at the main couple of fountains. Would like to return to both places to have a proper look but will not book this tour again. A waste of money.
This was a great tour. Hadrian's Villa over 120 acres really came alive with our excellent tour guide who supplied detailed information about how Hadrian lived in approximately 100 AD. The tour guide made you feel how life was in Hadrian's Villa. We next traveled to Tivoli and the Villa d'Este gardens. Tivoli is a beautiful city on top of a mountain. The gardens run down the side of the mountain and are beautiful with wonderful waterfalls and fountains. Lots of walking and climbing in this tour! Notwithstanding, it was well worth the time and effort.
The tour guide for this was a grumpy young lady who treated the expedition like we were an inconvenience to her. There were some elderly people on this tour who had difficulty negotiating the stairs , distances and pace at both sites and this effectively split the group in 2, with some of us assisting the couple. That not withstanding Hadrian's Villa was one of the best preserved and fascinating places we had been to and the sense of Time and place and interesting history of Hadrian makes this for me a " must see "
Villa D'Este was just beautiful the grandeur and spectacle of the fountains and water features in the gardens was breathtaking. This is however, not a place for the faint hearted ,there are many many steps
Hadrian's Villa has a lot of uneven rocky ground and if you are slow or incapacitated in any way I would not recommend this tour. In fact it was disappointing to this elderly couple that this was not stated at the outset as it old have assisted in their decision making. For me this tour , apart from "grumpy girl" was terrific!!!
A very nice way to spend a Sunday morning in the country side. Hadrian's Villa is quite an interesting excavation site when considering all the places we have come across his influence. It's mind boggling that it has taken 400 years so far.It does take some imagination to figure out how it all looked in those days. With Villa d Este one doesn't have that problem. The villa is nothing special until one heads for the large gardens with its wide range of spectacular fountains. We would have liked to have spent more time there. The little town of Tivoli was very picturesque and a great place to get away from the crowds in Rome.
We had two languages combined (French and English) which I didn't really like because you had to wait for the guide to give the explanation in both languages. One perk of this company is that they do offer hotel pick-up in the morning and then will drop you off at a major metro line so you can make your way back to the hotel. Villa d'este or Trivoli is amazing especially considering how long ago this was done and without modern plumbing. Hadrian's Villa was cool but I personally liked Pompeii better. Please note for all major archeological digs the items recovered are in a different museum that is not part of the tour. What you are seeing is just the ruins and a few re-created statues. This tour spends about 1 hour at each location and for us that was a perfect amount of time.
The trip to Hadrian's villa was great but given how long we spent there and the fact that the tour company "forgot" to take into account that the day we went was the first day of daylight savings time, we lost an hour of daylight and the Villa d'Este closes an hour earlier than it does in the summer. That gave us only 15-20 minutes to see the gardens which is no where near enough time. It's magnificent and in my opinion should be the highlight of the trip. Our guide was wonderful and I would certainly recommend doing the tour.
