Doing what: Catacombs and Roman Countryside Half-Day Walking Tour

This was an excellent tour. The information provided by guide Rosa was brilliant and an excellent background to the history of Rome. The visit to the catacombs brought history to life, so to speak, for me. The aquaducts were interesting and the information on various structures along the Appian Way illuminating. We were a small group of nine in a mini bus so it was a very friendly atmosphere.

It was an amazing experience to explore the catacombs with a priest. I think the Appian Road should not be missed along with the ancient aquaducts.

Appian Way was very interesting to see, and to breathe some fresh country side air. Thanks a lot!

Doing what: Catacombs and Roman Countryside Half-Day Walking Tour

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Not only did we have an interesting tour through the Catacombs of St. Callixtus, a stop on the Appian Way, and a visit to Aqueduct Park, but we also had a stop at Cecelia's Tomb. Our guide was knowledgeable and pointed out many sites as we drove to and from our stops. This is billed as a walking tour, but there was more driving than walking which was good since we had just spend two days on our feet. We saw a lot of things that would have been difficult to see in the same amount of time using public transportation and even if we could have gotten there, having a guide was a real asset. The tour was even better and more worthwhile than we anticipated. I would highly recommend it.

Doing what: Catacombs and Roman Countryside Half-Day Walking Tour

Well worth going on. The guide was super and was a mine of information. This trip added that little bit extra to give value for money in my opinion. The main trip was to the Catacombs at San Callisto, but the Appian Way was a lovely inclusion, as was the trip to the viaduct, which was fantastic to see. You will not be disappointed. The tour operator's staff were lovely to deal with, and everything was timed perfectly.

Doing what: Catacombs and Roman Countryside Half-Day Walking Tour

After spending the first two days in Rome, it was nice to be able to get out into the hills and look back down, as we did while on the Appian Way and while seeing the aqueducts--they were simply amazing! Catacombs were also! Our guide was THE BEST, as her degree was in architectural history. We also liked the fact that we could book this from home and go on our trip, knowing that we already had a game plan in place. Delightful morning that we will long remember! People at the office where we met our group were also very helpful; those things mean a lot! We live in Charleston, SC, so we know how important it is to do tourism right!

Doing what: Roman Gladiator School: Learn How to Become a Gladiator

A truly excellent day of fun! Our legs really ached afterwards; they worked us quite hard, but we were given lots of drinks and snacks we were even given an Italian easter egg to eat and little cakes to take away. The leader's English was superb, as was his instruction.

It was a little hard to find as there appear to be two 18 Via Appia Anticas! For reference, it is not the one that has a door on the road with a museum sign; you have to go down a dusty track, which is opposite a bus stop.

If you have seen a lot of Rome already and want to do something a bit different and active, learn to be a gladiator!

Doing what: Christian Rome Afternoon Tour

An extraordinary tour. Professional, passionate tour guides. Tour is misnamed. Catacombs, along the Appian way, are spectacular. The most important church, San Giovanni Laterano was a key stop and is not in the name. It is a must see. Their was a slight mix-up coordinating the buses, but that seemed like part of the fun of a trip to Rome.

Loved it. A good view of the Appian Way, and I also saw an Aqueduct up close. It was great!

Doing what: Catacombs and Roman Countryside Half-Day Walking Tour

The Catacombs tour was well done and informative. The Appian Way was enjoyable, though I wish we had stopped at two different places, instead of lingering at just the one. The aqueducts were extremely impressive. We had friends who took another tour of the catacombs, who paid more and got less. This was a high value tour that exceeded the description.

I loved it. The catacombs were great. We actually stopped and walked around on the Appian Way, not like another tour I took that pointed through the window and said "that is the Appian Way". The aqueducts were absolutely great. In all three locations, I think we spent the appropriate time to explore and experience. I recommend it.

This is a nice tour - it was interesting to see the Catacombs. The Roman countryside along the Appian way and near the aqueduct is very beautiful and this was a really nice way to get out of the busier inner city. I would recommend this tour if you have some free time.

The tour guide was enthusiastic. The bike riding was not for beginners, or older people that aren't in shape, as we rode quite fast as well. Mostly biking on cobbly roads, bump bump bump, so just so you know, not a relaxing bike ride! hard on backs and heads....Great tour company, my husband and I did their other bike tour around central rome (we actually liked that one better as the biking was on smoother ground, and it was not as difficult a ride. (we're 53)
The appian way is beautiful and so is the surrounding areas. You are not on the appian way all that long, (the appian way goes for 560 km)_
We would have liked to have seen a bit more of it, really absorbed the experience, but the guide veered off into the countryside quite early on)
We stopped at a sheep farm , which was quite nice, and some people bought cheese and some bought lamb for a snack (cooked on the b.b.q. )
I know we would have preferred a slower ride , evn if perhaps shorter, and lots more time to take pictures. Riding the bike and filming or taking a picture was what I resorted to as the spots were too gorgeous to not get on camera, and there was no time to stop if i wanted to keep up to the group. My husband and I both agreed that we would have liked more explanations along the way, and sometimes we felt we were biking only and not really learning, which is what we really also wanted to do. Not enough time I guess to stop the group and explain more things that we saw.

Visiting these catacombs was a great experience. The guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about describing the history of them. Thinking about these being constructed with no motorized heavy equipment of any kind is astounding. A must see in my book. The brief stops at a tomb, the Appian Way and aqueducts were also interesting. Amazing to realize these are in public parks that people walk and ride bikes through every day! Our guide, Inger, an American ex-pat, was very good also. It was most helpful to have the tour to take you to these places, and I would recommend it. Not a walking tour though - a short distance off the bus at each stop is all the walking that is required.

Good, the only problem was the groups at the catacombs. They were too big. The area is small, by the time the back half of group gets into a room or area, the guide has moved on. So you have missed what was said. Other than that, they were interesting. The appian way was good, but wish we had more time, and able to walk further. The aqueducts were great to see, but would have liked more time. Over all it was a good tour to get all three activies in, in a limited amount of time.
