This tour was very interesting and the guide was very knowledgeable. My only complaint was that there are no actual skeletal remains in the catacombs and that on the Appian way part of the tour I would have enjoyed more investigation of what is left there. We did stop and check out the aqueducts which was amazing.

Doing what: Catacombs and Roman Countryside Half-Day Walking Tour

The visit to the catacombs of San Castillo was an enjoyable tour. It also includes a short stop to the Appian way and the aqueducts.

Doing what: Catacombs and Roman Countryside Half-Day Walking Tour

The visit to the catacombs of San Castillo was an enjoyable tour. It also includes a short stop to the Appian way and the aqueducts.

Older bus used for transportation to/from the catacombs had obvious signs of wear, but was functional and safe. Overall tour guide was friendly and understandable. Local (catacomb) tour guide was understandable, but did had difficulty answering imprecise questions. For example, "What kind of oil was used in lamps used in the catacombs?" was answered with "Fine oil." This is a correct answer, but the question (reiterated in several forms) was intended to determine the source (animal, vegetable, mineral) of the oil. Time spent in the catacombs was about 30% longer than desired by participants with issues of claustrophobia. Stops at aqueduct and section of Appia Antiqua (the old Appian way) was a welcome addition

Our children aged 12, 15 and 17 really enjoyed the training. The school is well laid out and quite atmospheric. It was also educational. We also enjoyed the walk along via Appia Antica back into central Rome.

The tour guide was extremly knowledgable. The sights we saw were beautiful. The tour was quick enough for me to head over and see the Vatican City afterwards. The 3rd century Christian catacombs were tied with the Colosseum as the most impressive thing in Rome. The Appian Way and the Aqueduct park are beautiful and you need to have your camera in your hands to capture everything about them.

Well organised, and the guide was knowledgeable. It would have been better if we had a stop at the Domine Quo Vadis church on Via Appia before proceeding to the catacombs of St. Domitilla.

Doing what: Catacombs and Roman Countryside Half-Day Walking Tour

Great tour. Our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. We stopped at the catacombs and received about a 45 minute tour in English by a catacomb guide, then we stopped twice along the ancient Appian Way and a last time at the aqueducts. The reason for my three stars instead of four is because I wish we could have spent more time at the catacombs and less time at the aqueducts. But to each his/her own. The tour was definitely worth doing and I would definitely recommend it.

Doing what: Roman Gladiator School: Learn How to Become a Gladiator

We went to the school and had a great time. Our instructor's wit and humor made my our boys feel comfortable. The location was very hard to find. We took the city bus and drove right past it! We ended up at the catacombs and had to walk back along the Old Appian way. I was very glad to have found a friendly traveler who had a cell phone to call the school and tell them that even though we had left an hour ahead of our scheduled time, we were still going to be about 35 minutes late. Our instructor stayed there until we arrived and we had a fun filled afternoon. The museum was also fascinating. Our boys are 17, 18, and 14 and I believe at any age anyone would find a good time. Thank you for waiting for us and making us feel welcome. It will be good when you get your new location. In the meantime I would recommend that your guests take a taxi and bypass the bus system.

The catacombs were very interesting, though the group taken down there was too big. The Appian Way is very pretty, and our guide was excellent - it made a nice change of pace from the walking tours, too! Much easier on the feet.

A great afternoon; wonderful that English was spoken, too! Better signposting on the Appia Antica would have been helpful.

Doing what: Christian Rome Afternoon Tour

Tour vendor sent a van to pick us up at our hotel, and it was right on time. Driver was nice for the 5 minute drive to the meeting place. The tour guide was a little hard to understand, but she took the time to answer questions on anything that we might have missed hearing correctly. The sights at the catacombs, the Appian Way and the Santa Maria Maggiore Church were well worth the time and cost.

The catacombs portion of the tour was excellent, unfortunately the tour guide for the remaining portion of the tour (Appian Way and Aqueducts) we found uninformative. More knowledge and more facts interlaced with drawings of what the monuments may have looked like would have definitely enhanced the experience.

Doing what: Christian Rome Afternoon Tour

The tour advertised the Appian Way and the Carracalla Baths - we drove past them but didn't really see either. My husband and I could have saved the $100.00 the tour cost by taking a cab to the catacombes and walking to the churches.

This was a fun afternoon but very over-priced. The venue was some way out of Rome and our taxi-driver took a while to find it. However, it was nice and quiet, set away from the main Appian Way. The "set" was good. Unfortunately the session started 20 minutes late whilst waiting for other participants to arrive, the time was not made up at the end of the session. Although we thought we had booked a private session for 3 there were in fact another 6 people joining us. Half of the session was inside the museum which had a good selection of replicas/curios.The instructor was good, but there was too much time in the museum for our two 8 year olds (and there were 4 other children also). Outside, the instructor taught a sequence of 5 gladiatorial combat moves which we had time to practice before the session finished. There was no drink included as stated in the itinery but the certificate looks impressive and the children were pleased with it. The staff were happy to call a taxi at the end of the session although there was quite a wait for it to arrive. The boys enjoyed the session but my husband and I were expecting more for the price. If money is no object then this is a good way to pass some time in Rome with children.
