What an amazing day! We loved everything about this tour! We had great guides, both on the bus and at Pompeii. We didn't feel rushed to see the ruins, and then we got to go to the top of Mt. Vesuvius on a hike! In between, we went to a restaurant for a pizza lunch. On the way back to Rome, the guides entertained us with factual information about Rome and even came through the bus and talked to us individually about questions we had about other tours or things to see and do in Rome. I really loved the personal touch. I am so glad that we took this tour. It was one of the highlights of our time in Italy.

If we could rate this tour conducted by Dark Rome a 10 star we would. This was such an amazing experience and trip. Pompeii and Mt Vesuvius were part of our top experiences while being in Italy. The magnitude of Pompeii, the history and the ruins was something we not ever forget. The dual tour guides on this trip were fantastic! We highly recommend booking this trip.

This is the second most visited site, after the Vatican, for tourists to Rome. Every thing about the tour was professionally done and our guide, Mike, from Dark Rome Tours is an exceptional guide, although a different guide provided the commentary on Pompeii . Not only is Mike extremely knowledgeable on the history of Rome but he makes the tour it interesting and amusing to hear, which inevitable maintains your attention. First class all round. Well done!

Very educational tour. But I wish we visited the museum to see the cast of ancient findings. We only saw 2 at the city of Pompeii. But still the tour is worth every penny!
When you walk up the mount Vesuvius and look down.... It's breath taking.. I think we shot 300 foto's just from up there...
The guides were very educated about Pompeii n Rome, and they were very friendly and super helpful.... Lunch was tasty! Pizza done naple style!
Thank you, we had an excellent time!

We had a fabulous trip! Comfortable bus transport on larger bus than expected as we were 2 groups together. There was a "comfort" stop en route, although the number of people using the facilities at the stop limited access to drinks, food and souvenir shopping. Our two guides were like a comedy act at times, but imparted a lot of knowledge about Vesuvius, Pompeii and Rome. There was cloud around Vesuvius that day, but the magnitude of the site was not hidden. You are expected to walk up to the rim area within 20-25 minutes, which limits the time you have to take in the views when you are expected back at the base to meet the bus within an hour. We were lucky to have an additional 15 minutes and got lots of photos. Although people were walking in sandals and flip flops, shoes are advised as the path is loose chips and pumice. You can opt to use wooden poles to help you up and down the steep walk, for a donation. The tour guide does not come up with you, but there appear to be rangers who are able to give information. Lunch is simple but filling. Pompeii is amazing! The reclamation is massive and the local guide was funny and informative. Take water with you when you walk around the site with the guide, especially in warm weather and since you only have one drink with lunch - we missed that trick and had to buy lots of drinks when we got back to the entrance! Shoppers beware....there is no time to do any! (See the smiling face of my husband?) Which is a shame considering the length of the bus journey to and from Rome, but I am sure the approachable and flexible guides could let you shop for 5 more minutes if you ask.

This was the highlight of our trip, even though it was just a whim that we went. Our tour guide was AMAZING!!!!! He spoke excellent english, was about to talk everything from rome's history, to random facts about areas we past through, to Mt. Vesuvius, to Naples, Pompeii, and even just random questions people would ask. He had a great sense of humor, was very friendly, and made it interesting enough that even our 7 year old paid attention! Then if that wan't enough we had a second tour guide that joined us in Pompeii (so in effect we had 2 guides) and he also was very knowledgeable, spoke great English, and was funny! I can not tell you how wonderful this trip was!

Really a fanastic day. We are normally the DIY type of travelers, but opted for this tour. The Viator guide (Mike from California) was absolutely fantastic with his knowledge of ancient history and humor. The bus leave Rome early and an hour and a half later stops at a "rest area" which is clearly designed for tour buses. Nice, clean place for a "pit stop" and a coffee but amazing how much useless stuff the Asian tourists can buy.
Another hour or so and the bus stops near Pompeii for lunch at a place again designed for tour buses. Our expecations were a bit low but the pizza was AWESOME!

Our tour guides Violet and Franchesa were excellent, helpful, and kind. I liked going to the museum first and then onto Pompeii. Also, the place that we had lunch was very good. We took several Dark Rome tours during our recent trip and each one was of very high quality.

My daughter and I took the day tour to Pompeii from Rome at the end of January. We were very pleased with tour and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Rome. The tour guide, Angelique, on the bus was just fantastic providing an excellent narrative about the surrounding country-side and information about what we were going to see at Pompeii. On the trip we stopped at a nice quick-break area with plenty of clean restrooms; lunch was just excellent, both the food and service were very good. I am not sure what some of the other reviewers were complaining about because our lunch was very good. Because we went in January, we visited the Museum in Naples rather than the trip to Mount Vesuvius, in my opinion the Museum was a much better venue and much more meaningful than a trip to the volcano. The Museum gave you the opportunity to see many of the relics retrieved from the city and gain a much better appreciation for what you were going to see at the actual site. We had a separate tour guide at Pompeii, who was also very good. Overall, we were very pleased with our day spent on this tour and would highly recommend it to others.

This trip was excellent. Our tour director was fantastic and kept us entertained the whole way to Pompeii with her history of Rome and Italian traditions. The Museum in Naples was well worth seeing and the tour of Pompeii was exceptional. We all agreed this tour was the highlight of our holiday.

Dark Rome Tours was the best touring company. Our tour guide, Roberto, was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and funny. He made a very long day fact filled and enjoyable. Our local guide in Pompeii was also good.

This was one of the best tours I have ever been on! The guides were informative and fun and tried to get everyone involved which created a lovely group atmosphere. The trek up Versuvius was well worth it and I could have spent a whole day exploring Pompeii with our guide William. William was such a gem. He had a great sense of humour and was a real highlight of the trip. Overall I would strongly recommend this to anyone who has a day to spare in Rome. Make the effort - it was amazing!!!!

I can't say enough about our guide Peter. I have never met anyone so knowledgable, witty and downright personable. The trip to Tuscany was the highlight of our three week Honeymoon, and I'd follow Peter (And Dark Rome Tours) Anywhere!

The tour leaders were excellent: bubbly, funny and efficient. We stopped along the way for coffee and a comfort break. The Pompeii tour was excellent. The local guide was funny, pleasant and knowledgeable. Everything ran on schedule. We were taken back to Rome in a timely fashion. I higly recommend this tour. My only constructive criticism is regarding the lunch. It was just OK, nothing great. I have had better pizza and the salad, for an American, was way too oily. No vinegar at all. I would recommend an upgraded lunch,.
