Doing what: 3-Day Italy Trip: Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri

The trip was absolutely worth it. The tour operators were very professional and organised in handling this tour. The staff was very accommodating and made us feel well looked after. The local guides in Pompeii and Capri were very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and animated. The trivia they added to their explanations made the visits more real and interesting. They, together with the local coordinator for the Sorrento, Naples and Capri area, and the tour guide from Rome to Naples and Pompeii, spoke English, Spanish and German very well. It was amazing how they can switch from one language to another and say exactly the same thing. The hotel in Sorrento was fabulous and the hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating to our needs. Food was abundant everywhere they took us for meals. Sorrento, Pompeii and Capri were great places to see and definitely money well spent. However, Naples didn't really have much to show. In fact, I was a bit disappointed with the place. The third day in Sorrento was also a perfect way to cap the trip. It gave us enough time to explore the place on our own. The tour operators don't make you feel rushed. Even if we were following a schedule, they still had the ability to make us feel relaxed and having a lot of free time to explore the places on our own.

Doing what: 3-Day Italy Trip: Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri

I found this tour very good value for money. After 2 hectic days in Rome we were glad to have someone take care of the details for us, we hopped on the bus and off we went to Naples our first stop. The Naples part of the trip could either be done more thoroughly or not at all. However, it does get you off the bus and walking around for an hour. Pompeii is the next stop which is a fast passed 2 hours. This is enough time to see the main sites and take pictures. It would be good to have a little extra time to wander around at leisure, but that's the nature of an organised tour. Our hotel in Sorrento was amazing. We stayed at the Grand Hotel Royal which was one of the 3 hotels in the Grand chain that the group was accommodated in. Breakfast was included - anything you could possibly want both days. Dinner was wonderful as well. We expected that there would be a set menu however, we where given a large range to chose from including 3 courses. I really couldn't fault our stay in this hotel with wonderful facilities and views. The trip to Capri was a good day. Unfortunately we didn't get to see the blue grotto which couldn't be helped. Instead we did a boat trip to Faraglioni which was fun. When you go to Anacapri take the chairlift ride. Definitely a highlight. Lunch on both days was ok. It is hard to accomodate a large group of people for lunch so don't expect the best Italian food you have ever tasted but it is satisfactory - also you will need to pay for any drinks you have. For our final day in we decided to stay in Sorrento. It was great to have some free time and we decided to sleep in and go for a walk around Sorrento and do a bit of shopping. It was great fun watching the madness of the Italian traffic while having a coffee.
We were back in Rome by 8pm, dropped off fairly close to our hotel.
Overall a great value trip. You have to remember that you get what you pay for. Yes, there are some bus changes. But be assured, they will not leave without you.

Doing what: 3-Day Italy Trip: Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri

On the whole, very good and worth the money. Local operator was Carrani Tours, and they were very hard to contact. We had expected a pick-up only to learn at the last minute they would not pick us up because we stayed in private apartment near Vatican. We don't speak Italian and had to find someone else (from a different excursion operation) to make a call for us. They were very hard to reach by phone and neglected to answer 3 emails from me, which is bad customer service, considering what we paid for this trip. Could have skipped Naples altogether, all we had was one hour there to walk into a central square and didn't really see much of Naples. Next was Pompeii, and tour there was fantastic. Guide was Fabbiano and he was very knowledgeable and made the history come alive. Connection from Pompeii was quite disorganized and confused; first it was the yellow bus, no the gray one, then back to the yellow one. Carrani reps didn't seem to know who was going where, even the bus drivers were confused! No matter, arrived in Sorrento to lovely accommodations at Capidomonte, which were spacious and unexpectedly comfortable (so-so food). Also, tour to Capri was excellent, well worth the money and guide Constantino di Losa was knowledgeable, friendly and personable, and spoke excellent English. Loved Blue Grotto, Anacapri, but not enough time overall.
On the final day (Friday) 13 of us in the group hired a private driver to go to Positano and Amalfi; he spoke no English and none of the passengers spoke Italian, which made organizing a little difficult. Furthermore, he talked on his phone the entire drive to Positano on a very dangerous road, not making the passengers feel very safe. Arnello, local Carrani rep, could have done a much better job arranging the extra tour, which cost 35 Euro per passenger. Final stop at a tourist trap was silly since we didn't even have time to finish a cup of coffee.

Doing what: 3-Day Italy Trip: Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri

Tour started out rocky - the bus had some major problems with broken seats and the tour sould have provided a sound system in Naples. Having said that the rest of the tour was WONDERFUL. Our tour of Pompeii was excellent, the accomodations in Sorrento were unbelievalbe, and our Capris visit was delightful. Our time to self was spent at the hotel enjoying the wonderful day.

Doing what: 3-Day Italy Trip: Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri

This was a wonderful trip of sites I have always wanted to see. Carlos was our guide in Naples/Pompeii and he was great. Naples is a brief stop, which was good as Pompeii was much more interesting. I loved that they ended up giving us a free day the first full day in Sorrento. We decided to take the public bus for 7.20 Euro down the Amalfi coast and visited the towns of Positano, Amalfi, and Ravenno. All so beautiful and the drive gorgeous. This was my favorite day and the best value for on/off the bus all day. The next day they took us to Capri and Sasha was our guide that day. He was also great. We went to the Blue Grotto as the seas were calm enough (included.) We chose to take the chairlift up to the top of the island from Anicapri for a spectacular 360 view (not included.) But after spending the previous day seeing the Amalfi coast, not sure Capri could compare in my eyes, but still beautiful. During the tour, we changed buses/vans several times as the Pompeii only people go back to Rome as a few of us went on to Sorrento for 2 nights. It was well organized and we had no problems with that. The only reason I did not give this tour the full 5 stars is I was not impressed with my hotel pickup and drop off service. When they picked me up at my hotel, they were over 1/2 hr late and then the young man never looked at/ greeted me, just grabbed my bag as I ran behind him to the bus. They took me to their main office to actually put us on the bus that was heading out for this tour. Everything good until the return. They dropped me off in the dark about a 10 minute walk from my hotel. Since I had been in Rome a few days prior to this tour, I knew the area and also knew that many people walk around after dark and I would feel safe doing so. Had I been new to the area and not sure where my hotel was located from the drop off, I would have been very uncomfortable about that. They really could have dropped me closer to my hotel. Otherwise, great tour.

Doing what: 3-Day Italy Trip: Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri

We were glad that we took the 3 day tour, as it is a long drive to Pompeii and back. We had an excellent small hotel in Sorrento, enjoyed the busy shopping streets there. On Capri trips to the Blue Grotto were not allowed. Our trip highlight was taking a public bus to Positano on the 3rd day.

Doing what: 2-Day Italy Trip: Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri

Overall a great tour, only a few little hassles. Our tour guide to Naples, Chiara, was very nice and gave commentary on most of the trip. In Naples and Pompeii, Vittorio took over and he was very good. Pompeii was amazing. The hotel in Sorrento was reasonable, the meals were very good. Wet Day for Isle of Capri, No Blue Grotto trip, but Sascha made up for it with his very informed commentary and his humour. The lunch was very good. The main hassle was the bus trip home, Sunday night of a long weekend meant very long traffic jams and late home.

Doing what: 5-Day Best of Italy Trip

The trip was great. As a single person travelling I find it wonderful way to see the different places around Italy. You don’t feel alone because soon you start making friends. Our tour director Miriam was a caring person; she took control of everything, taking the worry of planning and organising everything for the group. I felt very feel safe and secure, especially me being on my own. Sabotino was a very skilled driver and very gracious to us all, helping us out off the bus and taking control of our luggage. There were some add-ons if you chose to go on them, which of course I did. I loved the gondola ride. I was lucky to have in my gondola 2 Spanish gals who sung for us.

There was a lot to pack into 5 days but it was well worth it because it gave you a birds-eye view of the places which was good as the places I loved I would return back to again and stay longer.

Our tour guide for Florence, Giovanni, was my favourite tour guide. I think all us gals really liked him, he was such a honey.

The only thing I didn’t like much was the multilingual aspect but after a time you kinda of got used to it.

I would recommend Viator as a good service provider in bus tours. I intend to use them again when I return to Europe and when I head over to the US.

Doing what: 3-Day Italy Trip: Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri

I strongly recommend Viator to anyone thinking of Pompeii,Sorrento and Capri. Naples was a disappointment with the short 1hour walk which didn't really showed us much of Naples. I would like to suggest perhaps a bus tour of the city by Viator so that we can see more of this interesting place. Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri were very well organized. The tour guides gave a very detailed and interesting narration of stories behind each of these places especially Pompeii and Capri. I would certainly say these last 3 destinations were the highlights of the whole tour. We stayed in Ambassadore Hotel in Sorrento and initially we were given a room in level 'C' which to our horrors had only a small window looking out into a small compound with what looks like a water container right in front of it. The room was dark and looks really depressing. We returned to the front desk and requested for a change of room of room and we were lucky to have our room changed to level 3, the highest floor in the hotel. It had a lovely balcony which looks out to the sea on the right and inland to the left. My husband and I loved this room and it's beautiful views. On the last day of our stay, we walked 10mins to town and explored the many many alleys with it's many shops and restaurants. We had a lovely 3 days tour and we found the tour very relaxing and well managed.

Doing what: 3-Day Italy Trip: Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri

The 3 day tour was a great way for some one with limited time to see some wonderful parts of Italy. Loved the accommodation in Sorrento overlooking the Bay of Naples. Capri and the Blue Grotto were beautiful. Well organised and run. Thoroughly recommend it.

Doing what: 3-Day Italy Trip: Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri

Fabiano and the Pompeii tour was wonderful. Our hotel in Sorrento was very nice and the town itself very pleasant. The only reason I rate it 4 is that the Capri and Grotto tour was really a wasted day as we were first taken to a gift shop before catching the ferry to Capri and didn't arrive there till 11:30. We spent over an hour waiting at the Grotto before we were able to enter, and for a 2 minute spin around inside, it was not worth the wait! Then we barely had an hour in Anacapri to shop and less than half an hour in Capri itself. Day would have been better spent eliminating the gift shop and the Blue Grotto.

Doing what: 3-Day Italy Trip: Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri

My son and I enjoyed our trip to Sorrento very much. The hotel was luxurious and our room had stunning ocean views. We suggest September for more comfortable weather for sightseeing in Pompeii and Capri. It was quite hot in early Aug. Well organised and nice tour guides. Thanks for the wonderful experience, hope to do it again one day.

Doing what: 3-Day Italy Trip: Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri

The trip overall was just great. Our guide Juan Carlos leaving Rome for Naples was perfect. Our Naples guide was good as well, but our guide in Pompei was awesome. We had already been to Capri, so we elected to spend the second day on own in Sorrento and Positano, ,it was wonderful. The Ambassador hotel is very nice. We enjoyed the pool, the food and swimming in the sea right in front on the hotel. The only downside was the lunch in Naples (the food was awful) and our drop back to our hotel in Rome. We were dropped near the train station about 4 blocks from our hotel, the St. Regis. My traveling mate had a heavy suitcase without wheels so we struggled to get her luggage up the street to our hotel. The tour company offices are located across the street from the St. Regis, so we naturally thought we would be dropped there, not so. I would not hesitate to travel again with Viator.

Doing what: 3-Day Italy Trip: Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri

Totally worth the Money, but I do have some thoughts. I could have done without Naples, and Pompeii could have been a bit shorter, but Sorrento and Capri were INCREDIBLE! The hotel we stayed at in Sorrento was beyond any expectation, and was worth the whole trip to be there for 2 nights! I don't think you could do the trip on your own for any cheaper, and it saves the hassle of worrying food and transport. I would certainly recommend this trip, however my only reason for not giving it 5 stars is because of the time "wasted" in Naples, and for the many transfers of buses and tour guides, as they were doing many different tours at once, but I think all in all it was worth it. My recommendation to the company would be to skip Naples and do Amalfi instead. They had an Amalfi additional option that I wish we would have taken, but it was too much money, and I think it should be part of the tour. We did Amalfi on our own in the free time on the last day, but we needed a guide, as we wasted a lot of time getting there and back not knowing what we were doing. The hotel did not give us good advice either. The tour company should have been willing to give advice for our free time on the last day. All in all it was a great way to spend three days, especially to see one of the most beautiful spots in Italy!
