Doing what: Pompeii and Amalfi Coast Small Group Day Trip from Rome
We had the most amazing day trip from Rome. It was a very long day because the guide(s) did not rush the day. They do not advertise that they stop for 2 hours for lunch in Positano and stop again in Amalfi for an hour. The guide and driver allowed for several stops along the amalfi coast for picture taking. The tour of Pompeii was wonderful and the guide there was very informative. This tour is worth every penny. There were 8 guests and driver in our van and we caravan-ed with 2 other vans. We are a family of four with two teenagers. They also loved it and it was their favorite day of a two week trip in Italy.

Doing what: Naples and Pompeii Day Trip from Rome
I enjoyed the day trip to Naples and Pompeii a lot. Turned out, that Pompeii was much more fun than Naples (I expected otherwise). The guides were friendly and informative. I definitely recommend this trip if you are in Rome. We left 7 am and came back at 8. Nice that the bus drop people by hotels on the way back. Excellent value for this money!

Doing what: Naples and Pompeii Day Trip from Rome
This was an amazing trip. The bus tour guide and the Naples/ Pompeii tour guide were very good. They knew what they were talking about and made you feel comfortable and well taken care of. The reviews and description do not do the tour justice. The time spent riding down and back from Rome is well worth it to see Pompeii!!!!! The lunch that was provided was very well done, filling, and great quality. Being able to see so much in one day made the time and price more than worth it. Pictures do not create the feeling and experience of Pompeii. It is MUST SEE!!!

Doing what: 3-Day Italy Trip: Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri
Great tour! Guides were well informed and friendly. Loved the hotel in Sorrento, gorgeous location and lovely rooms. The day trip to Capri and the afternoon in Pompeii were the highlights.
This tour was well worth it!!!!
The only negative was Naples and having to wait an hour in Naples on the return trip for other groups to join us, could lift Naples out and it would have been better.
The return shuttle in Rome left us off two blocks from our hotel instead of at our hotel, which wasn't awesome since we had luggage and it was late at night.
But overall we were happy with the tour.

Doing what: Rome to Pompeii Shuttle Bus & Independent Day Trip
This is a good way to see Pompeii on a day trip from Rome. No worries about organising rail tickets and transfers from Naples. Better value than a fully organised tour with a guide, and with no trips to local factories selling their wares. The best way to look around Pompeii is in my view to do it independently using a map bought at the entrance gate. The trip meets at offices near the railway station, embarking the coach from beside the station. Recommended.

Doing what: Pompeii Day Trip from Rome
A long day's trip from Rome but worth it. We experienced the bus ride halfway up Vesuvius and hiked the trail to the top. Marvelous views of Naples and the Bay. Excellent lunch included and then on to Pompeii. Amazing to see how truly large and advanced the city was for its time; really glad I went on this tour.

Doing what: Pompeii and Amalfi Coast Small Group Day Trip from Rome
This was our third tour with Viator during our trip to Italy because the other two were so great. We weren't disappointed. We booked this trip last minute because we were tired of walking around Rome. Long day trip but so very much worth it. The Amalfi coast is magnificent and one photo op around every curve. Our guide Alex took good care of us. Our eight member group really enjoyed each other and will be keeping in touch via email. Pompeii is worth the trip alone. The expert guide provided for us was so knowledgeable and was what you might refer to as a macho Italiano. He also was worth the price of admission. Wanted us to pay attention to us and not concentrate on our digital cameras...lol. Would highly recommend this trip and Viator

Doing what: Pompeii and Amalfi Coast Small Group Day Trip from Rome
Most amazing trip and experience of my five-week long holiday in Europe! This is a MUST-DO day-trip that I highly recommend to anyone visiting Rome, Italy!
We were collected promptly at the specified time by our wonderful French driver and joined a small group of 5 other people in a comfortable air-conditioned minivan where we drove to the stunning coast! Our driver/guide provided excellent commentary throughout the trip. We stopped at lots of great vantage points in the mountains for photo opportunities.
We were given an hour in Amalfi to shop and try Limocello and delicious Gelato! Then we drove along the winding coast road to Positano. Gorgeous surrounds and we were so lucky with the weather! After lunch and a swim in the ocean in Positano (and shopping as well!) we headed back towards Rome with our final stop and tour of Pompeii. We had a guided tour with a wonderful guide who lives and grew up in the town of Pompei so he gave us a very detailed run down of the amazing "buried" city.
It was a very long day (starting early and arriving back at the hotel very late at night) but SO worth the money and time. Do this tour!!!!!

Doing what: Pompeii Day Trip from Rome
Spectacular day trip led by very fun and extremely knowledgable guides (we were 2-for-2 with tours led by Dark Rome). They did a great job keeping the group together in Pompeii (the place is a bit of a zoo -- tons of tour groups all walking the same route), including a time or two when our baby needed to eat and we needed to hold back and meet up with the group a few minutes later. This was "above and beyond" in our opinion, and left a great taste in our mouths.
We enjoyed the lunch stop -- as many others have mentioned, it's pizza. That said, it was good pizza and we were in Naples, so we had a really fun time with it.
Vesuvius was really spectacular. We're seasoned hikers, and would definitely call it a hike. For anybody else who lives in the Pacific Northwest, it was about the same grade as Mt. Si for around a half-mile -- a nice workout after sitting on the bus.
One warning is that both Pompeii and the Vesuvius hike are extremely exposed -- basically zero shade whatsoever. Make sure you have lots of water handy, in addition to whatever sun protection/cover-up makes you comfortable.

Doing what: Pompeii Day Trip from Rome
There were two buses, two guides, and we got the less experienced guide. The other guide was chock full of interesting tidbits even before we boarded the bus, so I can only imagine how much we missed. Personally, I would not go on the Vesuvius part of this trip again. The payoff of looking down at a crater is just not commensurate with the task of hiking up the volcano. It's much better seen from a distance, especially if you are on vacation and cannot really afford to be extra tired, seeing as there are still several days worth of sightseeing in store. The poor, harassed driver (he had to reverse down the hillside road earlier) cleaned all our mucked-up shoes with compressed air, one person at a time. Give that guy a raise. We got another guide, Enzo, for the Pompeii tour and he is a polished professional who thoroughly enjoys his subject. He deserves top marks for his obvious interest and humor, and for leading us through the tour at a just-right pace. This is my second Dark Rome tour and so far the company is firing on all cylinders. Overall: Vesuvius and achy muscles afterwards get one star. Pompeii and Enzo get 5 stars. Dark Rome gets 5 stars.

Doing what: Pompeii Day Trip from Rome
A memorable and fascinating day. I was worried that, being prepaid, it might be less than expected, but this wasn't the case. Our group leader was well informed, friendly and truly concerned that we should have a great trip; the guide at Pompeii was excellent, better (apparently) than some can be and without a guide the site is too large for someone who doesn't know what to look for; and lunch (although a limited choice of margherita or bianca) was a very nice pizza with one free drink. We were lucky to have the best weather; I imagine it could be nasty if it was raining all day. The only thing we could complain about was the lack of time on Vesuvius - we had one hour, which was just enough to get to the top and down again (and open-toed sandals aren't wise with volcanic grit to contend with!) - but that is down to geography and the distance from Rome, so cannot be helped. I would certainly recommend this to anyone.

Doing what: Pompeii and Amalfi Coast Small Group Day Trip from Rome
We had an amazing day in Pompeii and Amalfi. We were only in Rome for a week and wanted to see more of Italy and It was so worth it. Leo was our driver and he was very informative. I think the tour guide in Pompeii was a friend of his and I believe we were able to see some sights that most don't. I had no Euros on me for the entry and he happily lent me what I needed.
The Amalfi coast and Positano were breathtaking. Take lots of pictures!! If you can get the driver to stop (very windy road though) you will get even better photos. Lunch was at a beach side restaurant and excellent. Order the Limoncello after and Lacryma Christi during lunch if you enjoy wine. The gnocchi was very good also. Next trip to Italy will end on this coast for hopefully a week! DO NOT miss it.

Doing what: Pompeii and Amalfi Coast Small Group Day Trip from Rome
I went on the Amalfi Small Group trip and would recommend it to anyone, in spite of the high price. Both the driver Leon and guide Antonella were fantastic and spoke very good English.
We went on the first nice very nice Spring day and thus the traffic between Pompeii and Positano was simply insane and it took us a few extra hours to just go a couple of miles. In spite of the fact that we didn't get back to Rome until about 11 pm, both Leon and Antonella were very cheerful and helpful the entire time. The vans were also very new, comfortable Mercedes mini buses.
Overall, a worthwhile trip to one of the most beautiful places on this planet.

Doing what: Pompeii Day Trip from Rome
One word: unbelievable. The guide was helpful, kind, and explained everything. The one thing to keep in mind is that you have no chance of getting back to Rome on time. We got back about an hour or so later. Still Pompeii was phenomenal and Vesuvius was equally fantastic. If you have an extra day in Rome, do this trip. Totally worth it.
