Take advantage of the metro system in Rome, it is one the fastest and most efficient ways to travel around the city. Almost every popular landmark or attraction has a metro station near the entrance or within walking distance. For example: the Colosseum has a stop right outside the entrance. Word of advice - do get sucked into the "for rent" tour guides outside the entrance. They charge double what the entrance fee to the Colosseum is. When all else fails just walk, especially within the areas leading you to the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, and Spanish Steps. There are signs everywhere familiarizing you with your surroundings and pointing you in the right direction. Just a tip - though it's sad to say when in doubt look for a McDonald's Sign. There's almost always a McDonald's next to popular attractions, the McDonald's signs will lead the way. Looking for good gelato? While facing the Trevi Fountain on the right hand side there is a little gelateria. During my trip to Rome I ate there almost everyday....that good : )
